I agree.

Maybe a tool for west coast left handed bagpipe players?   :D

My tool arrived and the quality is better than the usa models. At least fit and finish. The plier head fits together with precision. These tools are a little cheap though in that both handles have spacers where other tools could fit.

Yeah, it always disappoints me when SOG does that. :-\ If there is room, they ought to fill it with tools! :viking:

Nice review Bob.  :tu:   Are these being sold again? I thought they were recalled last summer. For quality issues.
These are being sold again.  They no longer have the replaceable cutters like the early ones did.
Any idea where I could find one with the replaceable cutters? Or even some photos of it?

You would have to be very lucky to find one of those since they were recalled . Here are the only 2 pics I know of.

Aw nuggets. I was just wondering about the crazy possibility of possibly grinding one down to fit in a pt-540 (I really want some replaceable cutters) but that doesn't look like a possibility. Especially since there are so few of them, I don't think I could bring myself to mangle such a collectible.

after reading through this entire thread. I am convinced that getting that Blacktip from WestMarine will be the ultimate goal for this month!

that's another good way!

I just wanted to ask if there are any blade play issues on the Blacktip Fisherman's II Multitool.

thanks for the positive news, mulou! I guess a little bit of breaking in and some wd40 will help. I'm plan to really use this for fishing...maybe use that file to make field expedient hooks out of safety pins or something

Not a bad idea.... I could do that draw where I throw a bunch of balls for Daisy and let her pick the winner, but I could rub bacon grease on the tennis ball with my name on it....

Just took this one out of the blister pack and realized that it's a lot bigger that what I thought

Just a few obsevations: the strap v cutter is made from a thicker stock of metal when compared to those on the powerlock/powerassist line.

The file surface is a lot sharper too, the build quality, fit, finish and polishing is better than on.any other SOG multitools I've seen or handled.

No worries about bladeplay at all.

Are you saying the v-cut is beefier than on the blacktip?  Is there any chance you could post a picture comparison?
The Leatherman crunch.  One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass consumption. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Can anyone post it alongside another big MT, like a ST300 or a MUT?

How long is it?

Good day boss!

on the SOG Blacktip Fishermans's Multitool II, the implement upon which the v-cutter blades are affixed is a bit thicker and sturdier when compared to the standard sog v-cutter. I had already noticed that teeny bit when the venerable J-sews posted the initial pictures which lead to my feverish obsession for acquiring one. It will be my pleasure to post pictures when I get home. so til later my friend =)

that was actually one of the things i saw on your original pics. I wasn't too sure if I observed it right or if it was just in the angle by which the photos were taken. i can almost guarantee that your Blacktip's V-Cutter is of the same thickness.

I could not resist, bought one, hated it, returned it in less than 24 hrs.
Fit and finish is first class near perfection, but the design is
Nothing against Blacktip, just to SOG's power assist system.

Overly complex mechanisms!

It is simple to design something complex, but...
