Let's See Your Small EDC Tool Kits
on: June 29, 2011, 09:28:21 PM
I wanted to put together a small tool kit centered around my Leatherman Super Tool 300. I wanted a kit small enough that I could carry in the counsel of my truck, on my motorcycle, or for quick fixes around the house. I wanted a kit that could handle most of my day to day repairs. Also, I'm experimenting on how much I can accomplish with this tool kit rather then going to my shop for other tools.

The tools in my kit include:
LM ST 300 w/ LM Bit Adapter, and Universal Tool Adapter
Screw Driver Bits  and 1/4" Drive Sockets and Adapter
6" Crescent Wrench
6" Vice Grip Pliers
T-Grip Magnet Driver
Victorinox L Wrench
Pocket Wrench 2
Chapman Mini Ratchet Wrench
Penlight
All these tools store in a Maxpedition EDC Organizer
Putting together this kit has been a work in progress. I would like to see any tool kits that you guys have put together.

Time to try this thread again :)  I was about to start a thread with the same title, and thought we should bring this one back instead.  Let's see other people's kits, or you can just tell me what mine is missing ;)

So in my Jeep, I'm used to keeping toolboxes and full sized equipment, since it's usually just me in there.  Turns out that doesn't work as well in the family minivan.  So I put together a glovebox-sized kit in a Maxped Micro:

LM ST300 w/ bit adapter kit
Vic Compact
Ontario Rat 2
Dual tipped Sharpie

Preon 1 Clicky
4" crescent wrench
Mini Bic
Notepad (Rite in the Rain)
Ikea pencil
Zip ties

Sewing kit
Gorilla tape
Safety pins

Nice!  I need to put together something for my computer bag, something I can move over to checked luggage.  I'm traveling for work next month, so I'll want to have tools with me, but really don't want to give them to TSA...

I keep a small tool kit in my glovebox. It has a Vic Hercules, slipjoint pliers, lineman pliers and a Craftsman 4 way pocket screwdriver.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

I have a similar kit to the ones shown.  I think it's a camo Maxpedition.  I also throw in electrical tape, 550 cord, zip ties, etc.

I have the smallest of the Maxpedition pouches. Think it´s called the micra or mini. Perfect size for multitools. I´m trying not to fill with unnecessary stuff and just what I have found that I need.

That flashlight plastic cap is an original part of it or is it a mod?...

It's an off the shelf extra I got years ago. It's from Fenix and meant to fit the PD20 it's shown on

Time for an update...
I decided I wanted the Maxped Micro for my bag, so I needed something else for the minivan.  So I stitched this together with canvas and leather for a tie.

Took other folks recommendations and found some new things to add, so it's a little bigger than before, but still not so big that my wife gets annoyed :)

Is that a Bahco adjustable spanner?

Thanks!  My first use of a tool roll outside of a cheap set of wrenches I had.  But I really like it so far :tu:

Now see what you have done....
No I´m not happy at all with the sorry excuse of tools I carry in my car console.
Now I can forsee weeks of perfecting the set up and several purchases, several changes of tools fourth and back and a considerable chunk of money spent that I can excuse by the safety of me and my family.

Thanks. This forum is "great"

Haha, glad we can be here for you ;)  I'd like to be able to say that won't happen, but that's exactly what I was/am doing :)  This could be a case of 'misery loves company' maybe?

Looks good! :tu:  I do the same with mine, someone will ask me to check/fix something at their house (usually my in-laws).  If a Skeletool or Wave can't fix it, I'll get this kit from the car.

How well does the elastic hold everything?  The Pioneer and By-the-Numbers don't look like they are really being held in place.
I just bought a Beefy, and although it's well made, none of the elastic loops seem like the right size to really hold my stuff.

The wipes are antiseptic, skeletool, trident. The silver pen actually has a level and small screwdrivers built in. The bullet is a butane lighter.

The Pioneer is a little loose, and it'll get more loose as it gets more use.  But to me, that just means I need to add more stuff ;), behind it in the back row of elastic.  The LM #6 is held in pretty well because there's a small tape measure under that back row of elastic.

I agree though, that having distinct widths of the elastic slots makes it a little finicky to arrange well.  I have a Milspec Monkey Tac Organizer with rows of pouches instead of elastic.   It's a little easier to work with, but you can't cram as much into it.
