Newest release from my garage
on: July 14, 2011, 11:54:08 AM
As you might know I don't throw very much away in my 'workshop'  ::)

I have been messing around with these bits on and off for months, until last night
I had a little off cut of spring steel left over from when I made 'lofty' my bush knife and a funny shaped piece of oak flooring from re-handling a Svord

Meet 'Scrappy'  :salute:

:-\ I'm not quite sure what its for or what I'm going to do with in now

I think I should have used tiny washers when I peened the brass rod (maybe I will redo it one day using some glue as well)
But it will stay like this until.....

Until you redo the floor in maple?

I wish my floor was done in Oak or even Maple

But the bits of flooring were rescued from a skip (dumpster) where I was working

I guess until...... I have another cunning plan  :D

It may be used as gardener tool... For some weed, branches... Or anything that need some cutting, poking, or digging but is out of reach, or not wanting to bend your back...

It could be useful to cut and steal some ham from across the table...

It seems like all the things I make change/evolve as I'm doing them (normally because of mistakes)

This was going to be a lot shorter, I sometimes start with a long handle that I can cut down when I get closer to the end of the job, this helps when I do something wrong and have to start again as I still have enough spare wood to start again  :tu:

but in this case it had a nice feel in my hand so I kept it long

I think it might be too short for digging as its only 10'' or 25cms long

And I think I have the ham stealing sorted  :D

Very unusual, patent it quickly before people start making copies.  :D
You have a longish wooden handle which should provide good insulation from heat and electricity, so, you could use it to cut hot items, from a barbecue, without burning yourself, or maybe electric wires, if you are worried that they could be live :ahhh….
Provided of course, that the wood handle doesn’t catch fire..

Tony your new mutant reminds me of my Camillus Whittler(well that is what the ebay seller called it). A bit more handle than blade  :D :D.

Looks normal next to my Pioneer  :D :D

:twak: Oi mine is not a mutant …. Its a very special little knife!

I have never seen one like that before Mat

At first I thought it was a cut down blade but the nail groove looks factory made to me

Nice little Whittler  :tu:

This is all Paul's fault  :twak:

My G/F is a little     but she has no interest in knives etc,

so when I showed her 'Carrot' Paul's knife that came to visit my garage I was expecting her to say 'that's nice Dear' (which is her way of saying 'thanks for keeping busy and out of the way' Dear)
I was very surprised when she said 'Wow that's really nice, I want one of those for the kitchen   '

I got a Farriers file  ;)

Hmmmm what did she say?   :-\ Something about 'in the kitchen'

I was thinking about it a bit more and decided this will rust  :twak: Bugger I've told her I am making her something, I shouldn't have said anything, bugger what shall I make instead   :ahhh

Ah chopper I got from the charity shop  >:D

That works, the grind is not perfect but I think I'm getting better  :)

Maybe make the thumb choil a bit deeper....I will ask later

Better test it, lovely and sharp  :D

.... I wonder how to make the handle orange?

I will have to explain the rust issue to her

Paint   >:D

I will let the G/F decide at the weekend but I wanted a curved blade that I can rock back an forth for chopping stuff  :tu:

It is quite sharp an I have a bald patch on my arm to prove it  ::)

I will see what the jury decides but to me when I was cutting the onion it felt like I should do some more work on the profile of the blade as the 'shoulders' needed easing back (not sure how to say that) I might play with it some more before she gets her hands on it

Oh and the handle didn't feel right to me but she has smaller hands that I so....

But apart from that its great  :D

I picked up a knackered 'Made in Germany' folder at the weekend carboot
In my Projects box was some Stag Farmman very kindly gave me to play with and some brass so.......

Now I know it doesn't look too bad in that last picture but to be honest the peaning didn't go as well as planed and I've ended up with a 3” fixed blade that needs re doing

Also still needs a bit of finishing off, sharpening and cleaning

Oh and I'm going to try to make a bail for it  :)
