Good price on a nice design. :tu: The guard is worth it's weight in gold if your fingers happen to slip on the blade. :ahhh Those Moras are sharp. :tu:

They are well worth the money. Best bang for your buck in the fixed blade market in my opinion. Theirs a lot of knife there for very little money.

I have a few Moras and they are all great. I bought one of the plastic handle ones with the huge finger guard and love it. Oh did I mention it was $8.  :ahhh All come razor sharp as well.  :tu:

Moras are fantstic value for money, and the cheapest ones are perfect as backup knives IMO. For a few bucks you get a razor sharp light weight knife that can take a beating. Perfect for stashing in the pack or in the car.

I don't have it any more (as I gave it to a friend) but I did get to hold on to one of these for a few days; http://www.heinnie.com/Knives/Hultafors-Knives/Heavy-Duty-Knife/p-92-913-6866/

Certainly in the same quality class as Mora, and even cheaper! :o

Reminds me of this Mora without the finger guard. I have on of the Moras in the link, but took off the useless clip thingy on the sheath. I remember hearing it was for one specific job set. It would not even fit a belt and got in the way when I tried to draw the knife so off it went.

I think that must be the updated version of this one I got given a few years ago.

I've got a few but need to take some decent pics.  Here's one to be getting on with (Mora something-or-other).

(Image removed from quote.)

Not certain though.  If anyone knows better I'd be interested to know. :tu:

Sure does look like a updated version, but like you i'm not 100% sure. It could be a different model.

I really like the extended finger guard on the one I have.

I have one of those, we issue a lot of tose to the guys at work. The clip is for attaching it to a button on you work pants, usually at the thigh over the thigh pocket. It clips on quite nicely.

Great to see that method of mounting the sheath. :tu:  I understood that was the purpose of the sheath style, but I'd never seen a picture before. :)

My Mora - IMO it's no back up knife - it's my one and only fixed blade - brilliant value.

It is homemade, yes. The sheath is the only thing I don't like about the Mora, but for the price they can't do any better, so no complaints - it's easier to make a sheath than a knife!

It looks like a real nice rig. I too prefer a good leather sheath over the plastic   ones for belt carry. For carrying it in or on a pack, the plastic ones are perfect IMO.

Heres a pic of the first knife I ever bought with my own money. I think I was about 8 years old at the time. Its a fishing/allround knife from Mora. It has seen a lot of use, and has taken quite a bit of my blood over the years.
I remember my fathers advise when we went to the sporting goods store to look at knives. It was something like : "To buy any other knife than a Mora is a waste of money". So a Mora I bought. :D

It's a great looking sheath mate. :tu:  Though I bet if you can make a sheath like that you could also make an excellent handle for a blade.  Buying a blade might mean it's not quite all your own work, but it does feel good none-the-less. :)

Cheers Gareth. I've just got hold of a bunch of old table knives that I have plans to turn into friction folders etc and experiment with, but time, space and lack of tools are an issue. I'll get there!

There isn't enough time to concentrate on mods, leather work, day job, housework, family stuff, - I need to cut down on sleep!

I'm after a nice thick file to turn into a fixed blade so I'll be going to the local car boot at some point.

My understanding is that Highlander are a brand that don't actually make anything themselves and simply buy in items to be resold under the Highlander name.  So some of their gear is really good value for money, other stuff is pretty poor.  So, with that in mind, this just could conceivably be a Mora that's been re-branded (same as Mora have done for Bahco).  Of course it could also just be a blatant knock-off.  :D

Either way at £20 I'm not going to find out myself.

It's strange also that one company advertise "Leopard" knives at £20 yet another is selling the same knife for £9.75.
http://www.survivalaids.com/leopard-survival-knife.

Here's another Highlander branded "big cat" the Jaguar.
http://www.surplusandoutdoors.com/shop/survival-accessories/pocket-and-survival-knives/boxed-wooden-handled-jaguar-bushcraft-942574.html

Looking around I can now see many items advertised as Highlander brand, I've just never noticed before.
By the way does anyone have any experience of the "Jaguar" knife?

That MIGHT be the same as one I had a look at in a Army surplus shop a while ago, though I cannot be sure.  If so I was actually pleasantly surprised with the fit and finish, though IIRC the blade wasn't quite as thick as you'd normally expect on this style of knife.  Of course I didn't get to actually do anything with it, plus it might not even be the same knife at all, but the price seems to be about the same.

seems to have had some positive reactions here: http://www.greenmanbushcraft.co.uk/cutting-tools/jaguar-bushcraft-knife.htm

This might be a bit off topic, but I surfed a bit around Dave Canterburys webshop, and discovered that he sells leather sheaths for Mora knives for $12, wich is not a bad price. I do not know how good they are, but it looks good on the pics.
