My "New" Pulse
on: December 06, 2007, 06:52:34 PM
The Leatherman Pulse I won on eBay has just arrived and I want to know if I am going a bit overboard on it.  The description was:

Used leatherman in great condition, has some signs of wearing.

Regular Pliers
Wire Cutters
Hard-Wire Cutters
Drop-Point Knife
Cross-Cut File
Diamond-Coated File
Scissors
Extra-Small Screwdriver
Small Screwdriver
Medium Screwdriver
Large Screwdriver
Phillips Screwdriver
Can / Bottle Opener
Ruler (8 in. / 20 cm)
Lanyard Attachment

Please look at these photos and tell me if you would consider this to be "in great condition" or merely having "some signs of wearing."

To me, this one appears pooched.  The blade is worthless, the lock mechanism is broken so the blade won't lock and the implements on the other side look like someone tried to weld or solder them.

I've sent him a note to see what he/she would like to do about the situation.  It's entirely possible they are not a multitool person, and wouldn't have the same perspective as us on it.  I hope to resolve this fairly for all involved.

No way is that in great condition  >:D

People do have different ideas on what is great/good condition. I have bought a couple of tools before and one of them was classed as great conditon and it was in a well used state, but once it had a clean, oil, sharpen it was in excellent condition. Some peoples great condition is different to others, but if thats great, what about his poor condition!

I do still wonder, if you end up keeping it, what Leatherman would make of it?

How strict are leatherman on things like that. As they say abuse is not covered, but people on here have bent and snapped blades off (obvious abuse) yet they go and fix it.

It would be a tricky one, but you never know ???

I think the best bet would still be for the original owner to give def he's money back, or a very very healthy discount ;)

Def, Sorry to see that you got tricked into buying that tool.  I hope that jackass gives your money back.  Perhaps he/she may give you a generous portion of your funds back.

I may talk to my contact at Leatherman about getting it repaired if need be, but I certainly wouldn't expect them to cover this as a warranty issue.  They may, but I wouldn't expect it, especially considering this is a discontinued tool.

How many folks would have just bought new tools if I or folks on my site had told them they could get theirs repaired free?  I think Leatherman may have a hit out on me!  :D

True, if you think thats bad- you gotta see the supertool I bought 3 years ago. It was covered in deep rust, no serrations left, broken knife blade, all broken screwdrivers even the philips and the awl was bent and hammered shut! And the wirecutters were dinged up BAD!

"....has some signs of wearing."     Maybe this was simply a typo? Perhaps they meant to say, "...has some signs of welding"?

I know, I know, I do feel for ya. Nothing knocks a guy down quicker than opening a package and finding a hunk of junk inside.  :(

So what about this seller's feedback? Does it show any history of problems?

I hope this situation doesn't turn out to be another "ebay kayak oar" blowout!

Seriously though, sounds like the person outright lied in the description, or maybe they never even opened the tool.  If it was up to me I'd leave neutral feedback or no feedback at all and send it off to Leatherman.

How much did you pay for that abomination?

$30 and the seller is offering me a refund if I send it back.  I'm not certain how much I like the idea of paying for shipping again though.
