Evil's day of boredom + a simple SAK
« on: August 07, 2011, 05:29:22 PM »
Hey gang. Evil here again. This is one of my not-so-serious, just for kicks mods. It kind of started off as one of those "let me see what the hell I can do with this thing" projects. I got it for free with a Vic flashlight. In it's stock form it is something that would never see any use by me. I am a user, not a collector, so this meant I needed to mod it if ever I were to use it. I was bored yesterday and decided to see if I could turn it into something that I would actually use. What a difference a day makes lol. I apologize for lack of progress pictures. It was all done in one non-stop sitting and didn't even take the project serious to begin with as I am not that into SAK's per se. Anyway, what started out as a lunchtime distraction resulted in a little tool I think I will actually throw into my EDC rotation.....

~ evil ~

I am not well versed in the various Victorinox models... at all. I am guessing this is the 58mm Rally? If it isn't perhaps someone more knowledgeable will chime in.....

Scissors! Most of you familiar with my work know that the lack of scissors is most often a deal breaker for me. So that was the first thing that I added. Secondly, I love awls on my tools if at possible, so I added a chisel ground awl. I am always wearing glasses and actually make use of micro screwdrivers, so I came up with a hollow ground micro screwdriver. I also added a serrated blade to the belly of the screwdriver for the times I want to rip things apart.....

Another frontal view.....

Backside view.....

Yet another backside view.....

I didn't intend for this SAK to go onto my keyring, rather clipped onto me somewhere, so I came up with a clip to do the job. For a bit of a custom touch, I shaped the end of the clip into the shape of the Victorinox shield.....

Yet another view of the clip. You can see the little lanyard pull in the background I came up with.....

Not a totally custom turned lanyard pull like all the others I have made, this one was created from the lanyard of a micro sd card reader lol. I added one of my custom turned thumbstuds to the end though to give it a little wickedness. If I would have taken this project a bit more serious, I would have made one from scratch.....

So there you have it. The results of me being bored, with a few hours to spare and a simple SAK that I would otherwise never make use of. As I was making more progress on it, I was liking it more and more and decided to add it to my EDC rotation. Who knows, maybe this could be the beginning of Evil venturing into modding SAK's too in the future.....

Thats cool but the pocket clip is just
That's a little outside my skill set
But then again, that's never stopped me in the past  :D

Nice mod! Where did the scissors come from? Do they fit right?

Good eye there. They are indeed not Vic scissors. They came off of a Winchester pocketknife. The fit was actually spot on, and feel like they were meant to be in there.....

Thanks Sparky. I think I may have spent more time fabricating the clip than the rest of the tool. If I get the chance, I might go a step farther and engrave the cross and shield on there as well.....

I added one of my custom turned thumbstuds to the end though to give it a little Evilness.

Fixed :D

From a project I playfully messed around with out of sheer boredom, to something that has become an active part of my EDC, this little SAK has really grown on me. I decided to give it a facelift and dubbed it Evil's Urban Companion. It will be part of a set. The baby brother, if you will, of my Vic OHT project that is about 75% done at the moment. New scales are carbon fiber. Handles for both the toothpick and tweezers made of matching red cellidor. New toothpick is Zytel. New tweezers are .005" thicker. Made a new black and red lanyard to match as well.....

COMING SOON:

Evil's Urban Trekker: Vic OHT based/S30V PE blade-oversized thumbhole-jimping/Scissors/Glass Breaker/SS liners/Oversized SS hardware/Custom micro screwdriver, toothpick, tweezers, pen and pocket clip/handmade inlay/More to come.....

Evil's Elixir: LM Juice XE-6 based/D2 PE blade-thumbstud-liner lock/fold-out LED light/Carbon fiber scales/more to come.....

Great job, as always! :tu: Perhaps that lanyard could be used as a stylus in a pinch, no?

Damn dude, how do you DO that? You need to stop being so consistantly god like in your modifications before I start sending you all my tools and piles of money to convince you to mod everything I own lol. Great work as always.
