Just watching Kevin McCloud's Escape to the Wild and saw him holding an Opinel. He was with a family from England who were building a mud bag wall house in the foothills of the Andes.

Here is an older one with an apparent factory drop point blade.  Im afraid to carry it in my pocket for fear it might open and slice under my fingernail.

Nicely worn little chap  :tu:

You could modifie the collar to lock it closed like the newer ones
Or make a little sleeve for it with a bit of bike inner tube  ;)

OK, I admit it, that was my first thought as well. :D  If, on the other hand, you really only want one for some reason, I don't think you can go far wrong with starting with a Carbon No8.

I had a #6 which was my first and while a nice little knife I gave it to a member.  I recently got a Carbon #8 and like it a lot more.  So light and nimble this knife, it has become my steak knife, fruit knife, sandwich cutting knife, and general food knife.

It has a good size blade and as most will or have said it will get wicked sharp.

It really is, I carry mine in my front pocket next to my wallet which works out great.  I had to mod mine so it would lock closed but that was easy.  I hear people say all the time "it weighs nothing", well this knife weighs something but man next to my wallet I forget its there.  It's a light knife but a not a lightweight, ya know?

Theres a slip sheath thats sold too but I'm not sure which size it will fit.  This would be a great way to carry an Opinel.
