Unless you're going to put some serious work in to the handles of the AK-47 or American Lawman series, I would NOT suggest them for an urban EDC.  The G10 is very heavily checkered and will rip your pockets to shreds.

bad picture of 3 CS knives:

The Kudu is my favourite; I see it like a mora knife: cheap, good size blade.

Good slicer, unusual (Wow factor here), value for money, solid lock.

I like both the older and newer versions of the Recon-1. Can't say which I like better really, the newer model feels better in the hand but I prefer the lock on the older version. The Rajah II is a neat piece. I only really got it because it was so huge. It's like a folding short-sword.......

........got it more for the novelty. A well built piece, don't get me wrong, but not something I would use or carry.

The American Lawman is a nice piece for the money. The build on it is real good. But as much as I like some of Cold Steel folders they all lack one thing I require for pocket carry......Tip-Down carry. That said, their newer knives like the American Lawman and the new Recon-1's I probably wouldn't carry even if they had Tip-Down capability simply because of exactly what jekostas mentioned......the checkering on their G-10 is very coarse. Feels alright in the hand, but messing around with my Lawman I did pocket it once to see how it would ride and I had a hell of a time getting it back out. Their pocketclips have good stoutness so between that and the course sand-paper type surface of their G-10 the knife hung up in my pocket and I had to really rip it out. Just a few times of doing that and I would likely have worn a hole in the pocket in short order.

Code 4 = BEAST

Big but not cumbersome
Elegant but not fancy
Advanced material but not expensive
Simple but not crude
Tough but not overbuilt

Modded the Code 4 a little to fit my preference:
New thumb stud, I found the Cold Steel thumb studs are uncomfortable to operate in conjunction with Tri-Ad lock.
New pocket clip for tip down carry, 99% of knives nowadays are tip up carry only, which don't work well with my small hands.

Why would anyone need such a big blade.  :td:

:D

Had to do it. I have had my fair share of blade size conversations on this forum and i'm no stranger to the larger knives.  :tu:

I love both the larger and smaller blades alike. Carry those pocket swords if it makes you happy.  :tu:

Cold Steel knives knives have never really done much for me.  For right or for wrong I've always though of them as a step above gas station knives. No offense meant to any owners or fans; just one mans opinion and from someone who openly admits to not have handled a lot of them.  Maybe it's the antics of the owner but I've just steered clear.

These Code 4's look interesting though. Maybe I need to give them another look and pick one up to carry for a while.
Waiting for the time when I can finally say; this has all been wonderful but now I'm on my way.

I think their current line offers a great value, bringing CTS-XHP steel to the game at a reasonable price increase from their old AUS8 models.

Most are also thinner, lighter and more carry friendly than their previous versions.

I'd say give them a try!
