I just got this slingshot as a gift, it's awesome :)
« on: August 27, 2011, 07:36:25 PM »
My family came back from Italy bearing gifts.
Specifically a Barnett Diablo slingshot.
http://www.barnettcrossbows.com/product/diablo

I know there are 1000 names for this contraption like catapult, sling etc', but lets not get into that.

The point is it's awesome!
I have been shooting olives (straight from the tree, not canned) all day long for lack of better ammunition and my aim is getting pretty good. This thing shoots the pants off of my old homemade one. It shoots them so far that I lose sight of them at some point.
Do any of you play around or hunt with a slingshot?

You could shoot arrows with that you know. It's highly accurate and lighter than a bow.

I saw a few videos on how to shoot arrows with them, but I think I'll stick to cheaper stuff (rocks, olives, marbles) for now :)

For long time now I'm tempted to get one and play... Can someone help with quality/brand and what to look for??
There is method to my madness....

I love slingshots...my dad has one similar to the one you got that he's had for years.  I used to sneak it outside with me and play...yeah he hid it after I accidentally cracked one of the windows of the hospital...I aimed a little too high and over the fence it went.  Oops.
Now I play with one I made out of paracord.  It's a sling shot, but one of the one's with 2 long pieces of cord attached to a pocket in the middle.  Put a rock in the pocket, get a good swing going and let it fly.  Of course, I did hit myself in the head a couple of times when I first tried it...but it's fun to toss rocks across the river.  :)
I have been recently diagnosed with ADOSS... Attention Deficit OH SOMETHING SHINY!

I guess I wasn't clear enough
Or maybe I just need to hook you two up with some real middle-east style black coffee, and not the Starbucks concoctions you're used to drinking  ;)

I have always wanted to try one of those!
I'll have to make one some day and try tossing some rocks around :)

I had a similar one a few years ago. I like the wrist brace on them.  None of my previous ones had those and my accuracy increased exponentially when I got one like that.

I'll have to get another one sometime. They are great fun!

I bought a Black Widow type from the Pound Shop last year.

When I was a kid,I made a Xapault:Solid wood frame, with yokes for the rubbers,a hole drilled through the frame in line with the rubbers. It fired lengths of dowl up to 50m(enough power to smash windows at that range too!)

All good fun
