The Axe Hole
on: December 27, 2007, 08:16:46 PM
I have been meaning to start this one for a while, and finally got around to it.  These days the multitool influence has increased so much that even axe manufacturers are getting on board.  For example, the SPAX from Ontario Knives:

There are also many of these kinds of things out there:

But on a more functional level, I also have one of these:

In addition, some of the manufacturers we are already familiar with are producing 'hawks:

SOG Fusion Tomahawk

Of course I am also interested in axes, hawks and hatchets and I own the site, so I can add a forum like this if I want! :P

Lots to talk about here!

The usual way - leant it to someone ::)

I need to get something from Unca Tolin, don't care what. Didn't know he made 'hawks tho - a word in his shell-like may be in order...

I also have a Vietnam tomahawk, and I've worked on Tomahawk cruise missiles!

I have one of the Cold Steel Vietnam 'hawks and I think they are great- if fighting is your thing!  I've found it's virtually useless in it's stock configuration for "axe" chores.

Good point Doug- I just put them here because this is where the flashlight forum is, and they seemed slightly off the multitool discussion like flashlights.

I could easily move them if anyone else thinks they should be in the Tool Section?

I think it should stay where it is as this is mt.org and so the tool section should really refer to multi's IMO.

I think what Benner is meaning is that the primary focus of this forum will be axes in all their forms, not specifically multitool oriented axes like the ones I posted.

My current hatchet cost about half that on sale.... it does the job and I don't care much if it gets lost!

I'd like to get a better one, but for the price, it's hard to beat!

Thanks for the link. I was looking for one of these a couple of years ago. I was thinking that cheaper than dirt had them, but when I went to order one I couldn't find it.

I put my order in almost as soon as I saw your post. They were so cheap I bought three of them. I was skeptical about the quality at this price, but they are just what I wanted, strong & cheep. I stuck the prybar in a vise and tried to bend it but I couldn't bend it with reasonable force. By that I mean that I didn't want to damage my vice or strain myself.

These came wrapped in the same kind of paper that firearms sometimes come wrapped in. The kind that is treated with oil or something to help prevent rust. It says made in China on the paper.

Thanks again!

I have one of those from Lee Valley Tools and I love it.  It's described in the Lee Valley catalogue as the kind of tool you can leave out in the rain because it can't get much uglier!  They are absolutely right!
