Yes absolutely, this is why the catalogue date may be correct, also one can read on them or translate some on espacenet patents,

ICanFixThat did mention and like we did research some time ago, we found the scissor from Wenger around 1972, this means we can confirm this date, and even take precautions 1971-1973.
So now we have a important clue on early 70s development. ICanFixThat mention changes in early 70s.
Also is it correct what we found some time ago on the nailfile, the modern early 70s and i found an interesting patent application from or filed 1971. From the little German i know and the translator, it is mentioned a new production means for nailfiles, for pocket knives, here again is some info on steel, this is/did find elsewhere aswell. Will look for this in english.
As tempered steel 0.3 to 0.4 carbon, and 13 to 14% chromium, is the RC hardness of about 53 to 57.
all of this info is old for us, but it fit in the early 70s changes, maybe we can get closer to the 1975 key year :) Hopefully we could learn more on the scales here aswell.

Are you maybe referring to Wenger's patent granted in 1973 for the spark-erosion method for making the filing surface on the nail-file?  No more parallel lines, just a harshly-stippled surface.  Like the nail-files on Wenger and Victorinox knives now except the Executive.

I I have been wanting to pick up a swissbuck traveler for a bit. Are the scales the same material as standard?  Are they more grippy in design and materials that the smooth faced wengers?

Cheers

The SwissBuck handles have a matte surface and grooves. I think they're nylon but the one ad I have doesn't say anything. They're slightly more slip resistant. The big difference is the clip- rather than spear-point main blade.

Slightly more grippy, very slightly ... but negligable.

The Soft Touch 14 has the same clip blade but not the chain and is currently available (so prob easier to find and cheaper), and has the best traction of the three. That said, in my hands the Evowood 14 feels even less liable to slip

Hi, yes absolutely. Its the one

The more modern can opener(different size) is shown on the 77 tool set. Already in knife picture adverts elsewehere aswell in 77. Probarbly you have some info on the invention of this can opener?, i would be surprised if it was not more early than 77 :)
Atleast for me this era of SAK is the modern SAK (1975).

I will let this matter rest after this for awhile.
Old research i had on the changing of the sides, can opener/fl.scr.dr is around 1977. It means again to me it fit more into the 1975 modern SAK. Not 100% here on the side change, hopefully we could have 1975 soon.

Hope you folks forgive me for all the text :)

Here is a nice picture, latest Wenger. It is a shame i just fish, hope you like the picture

Just picked up a Ranger 78 and boy is it awesome!

The only thing I find odd about it is the caplifter makes a strange sound when it is opened.  The sound is kind of like how a rubber o ring sounds when it is getting worn down.  Is this a lemon?  Or is the sound standard?

I believe this is a "Swiss Outdoorsman" with standard red scales.
Any information about the catalog number?

The only info I have on the top knife is a couple of photos of red and green L.L. Bean versions and the note that they called it the ' Swiss Outdoorsman'.

The second knife I don't even have a photo of. Closest I can find is the Classic 23/Major, which adds a saw.

A couple of great finds!  :tu: :tu:

These scales look really nice, model Snow 50 do not have fl.sc.driver or can opener. Just the tools on picture. Corkscrew but not reamer.

Hi

It is a coating applied on the scales, one can see them on different camo pattern knives. I guess we can not expect the same durability like on the standard scales. I have a Ap Blaze 10 that i have used for some time every day. So far it only looks better :)

PS it is not slippery
