Your daughter has excellent taste. :D

Right? First the SAK, now the watch. When should we expect her to join MTO? :D

I'll ask her to write a review of her first multitool as soon as possible. May take a decade though.

After over a decade, I am wearing a new Genuaaaine Casio G-Shock.... from Dinodirect..

It looks similar to the real one, but the actual module is different and basic (Alarm, stopwatch, clock) The adjust button and the G button do the same - they operate the light (multicoloured led)

Still quite content with my CASIO Rangeman. Although it is water resistant, I don't shower with it on. I'd like to keep the gasket in pristine condition.

The compass is spot on, and the barometer is pretty good at predicting rain. My only question is with the altimeter that doesn't seem to spit out accurate results.

I'm moving down the street but at my current residence the time automatically updates each night.

One of the more expensive CASIO's, I'd say worth every penny. :tu:

I know I'm a bit late with my response but somehow I missed this post  :-[.

The "all black" model of the Suunto Core is a bit harder to read than the regular one ... but did you know that you can adjust the contrast on the Core ?

Here's the official "how to" video from the Suunto site:

Last year I bought my first Suunto Core (the all black version), I wore it on vacation in Austria and loved it so much that when I saw the regular Core on sale at the local outdoorshop last December, I couldn't resist buying it ...

Here's a pic of my latest Core, which I wore today during a hike with my oldest son.

Here's a pic I made when I just got it:

Whith freash battery it's easy for me to read the Core. However I played with contrast. The fact is that after I changed the strap with a black it killed my watch rotation. I don't want to miss it for a day until my death.

The compass is spot on, and the barometer is pretty good at predicting rain. My only question is with the altimeter that doesn't seem to spit out accurate results.

Altimeters work through measuring the air pressure, and calculating the elevation from that (the higher you get, the lower the pressure will be). Of course with weather changes, the air pressure will change as well, and I think it needs to be recalibrated on a known hight, to then from there measure the real elevation.

That's why it doesn't measure accurately at all times ;)

That's why I prefer my Suunto Core(s) over my Casio Protrek (and Riseman).

The Core also measures altitude using air pressure, but you can manually choose if the change in air pressure should be interpreted as a change in altitude or a shift in weather conditions.  For example, when I'm hiking in the mountains I will set the preferences on my Core to "alti mode", so the watch "knows" that any change in air pressure is due to a change in altitude, when I'm on a hike in flat terrain (or when I'm in the mountains but I'm going to stay in one place for a while, overnight, or while eating dinner) I will set the preference on "baro mode", so the watch will know that any change in air pressure is due to a change in weather.

During my vacation in Austria last summer, I had my core and my Riseman with me, so I could check altitude on both of them to see if there really was a difference.  And sometimes they both were pretty accurate, but sometimes the Casio was between 100 and 200 meters of.  One morning the Casio showed 300 meters change in altitude overnight, while the Core showed the same altitude as the evening before, but it did show bad weather was on the way ...

Despite this nice option on the Core, you still need to calibrate as often as you can, while hiking, you should calibrate every time you're in a place with a known altitude.  Be it a mountain cabin, a mountain top, the start/end of a chairlift ...

Here's a nice video I found on the Suunto site:

I have been wearing my older Seiko lately. I have had it since I was probably 14 so I love wearing it. It still runs better to this day than any other watch I own.
