Multitool TV show!!!!!!!!!
on: November 08, 2011, 05:52:14 AM
Alright if you are hoping there is a TV show all about MT'S and SAK'S I hate to be the bearer of bad news that there is none. I figure with all these shows on TV about making cakes or what not. Why couldn't we have a MT and SAK TV show.  Im very smurfaced at the moment so I might have to explain myself tomorrow.

I like the idea. I'm not sure how if and how it would work :) The target audience is too small I'm afraid.

All those survival programs, DIY shows and Rebuild your house in a week shows should do something with MTs and SAKs  Without Bear Grylls of course ;)
You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.

I suppose this is as good a time as any to announce this, but here goes:

One of my many projects over the past couple of years has been the development of an EDC related regular feature.  Since TV isn't currently available to us, the plan is to start with a regular Youtube vidcast.  We want to do it properly- not the out of focus ummm-ing that you see in most online video reviews.  We want to make high quality videos with interesting interviews and the latest news and debates.  It shouldn't be too hard in theory.  The plan is to make as close to a TV quality show as possible so that when/if we get an offer from a network, it won't change much.  :D

Where we have fallen down so far is the amount of video editing that needs to be done to even produce a relatively short, decent video is more than I can personally manage.  If anyone is willing to help us out with production, some content, some graphics or other ways, please send me a PM and maybe we can finally get this off the ground.

That sounds great, I always regreted the lack of some descent reviews of multitools and SAKs. There are a few by DaveK and 1jump2many but they don't seem to make them anymore. Maybe we could ask them to use their videos on the mt.o channel. I see 1jump2many is active again here so maybe he'd be willing to help. And some descent interviews from the shoot show and the like would be great.

I'd love to offer assistance in that role and help get that project underway for you - but unfortunately I have insufficient free time available, no access to the proper equipment, and am completely useless .. so please disregard this post  :P

Exciting news though  :tu: It would be great to see something like that happen  :salute:

There sort of is a show that includes multitools.  "Cool Tools" gives a brief demo of new and existing tools and on several occasions has featured Leathermans.

I have the software and some basic understanding of how to use it.  I have some good camera equipment and a decent (soon to be increased) amount of bandwidth for transferring large files, so a show in full HD, and or interviews via Skype are entirely possible.  The issue is I barely have the time to film segments let alone reviewing and editing them.

Wow DEF great to hear you have this in the making. I wish I could help, but have limited knowledge with editing and video production. I know it is probably a long way off at the moment, but I cant wait to see the first episode.  :tu:

Thank for turning my Smurf faced thread into something exciting. I saw my thread title this morning and did not remember posting it until I started reading my post.  :-[

No problem- I always have many projects in the wings, and this is one of them that has been in development for a lot longer than I care to admit.  It will happen, it's just a matter of having the right resources to do it properly.  The world doesn't need another half assed Vidcast.

The closest thing to your dreams coming true would be Mythbusters and Survivorman

Hey, if you need help I'm always willing to volunteer.  Ive got a new job now (still with Chrysler) that involves me watching cars drive themselves all night long.  It leaves me a bit of free time :)

I'll probably take you up on that Mikey- barring any other "emergency" getting in the way, EDCTV has been given a bit more priority lately.

Ok, just let me know what you need.  I usually have my laptop here at work with me and can work here or use my desktop stuff at home.  I've also got an HD video camera (it's a cheap one but it works.)

I've done some video stuff before but not a lot.  I can usually learn new software stuff pretty quickly.

Well, with a poke like that, how can I ignore it?

You can see a rough cut of the beginning here:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/762283/EDC_TV%20V.01.01.mp4

Bear in mind it is really rough at this point, but suggestions are welcome.  And yes, I know it is very Top Gear-ish.  That was what I was going for.  :D

I have been recording segments for it already, although I will admit I haven't gotten too far along.  I want to do a real show, not twenty minutes of me flipping a tool open and closed while talking about it with a lot of "uhms" and dead space.

Bear in mind that this is not my show.  If anyone else wants to participate, send me a PM and I will send you the requirements to fit it into the format I am working with.  I am anticipating a Top Gear type format where different segments are introduced in the "studio" with other segments done live- bits like reading the news, viewer mail etc.

I also want to get a few episodes ahead of myself as I hate to have to work under deadlines.  Most of the old SOSAKOnline articles were written in the last few days of each month.   :ahhh
