I need some info/old knife...56k maybe
« on: January 05, 2008, 08:13:54 AM »
I have had this knife since I was little. It was my grandfathers and then it was mine. I never got to ask him where he bought it and all. I have searched online and found nothing.

It has SPESCO in a diamond shape and then Solingen (which is who made my straight razor) and then West Germany under that. Horn handle.

Can anyone here tell me a bit about it. I.E. Limited, rare, mass produced, American made, blah blah blah. I have just always wondered about it and would like to know everything I can about it.

Thanks in advance.

Spesco corp was an importer based in Atlanta,GA. Likely your knife was imported by them from Germany.

The 85/5 might be a date...the blade might have been made in May of 1985.  Would that date make sense with the timeline of you and your grandfather owning it?

From what I can see it looks like a mass produced knife like Ka-Bars or Bucks of that design are.

Do you have a picture of the whole knife you can post?

No it would have to be pre-1970 I would think. Here are two pics of the full knife. Thanks for your help guys and girls.

Many knives like that came out of Solingen.  Unfortunately that's not my area of expertise, and I'd think you might get more information on one of the dedicated knife forums like www.knifeforums.com or www.bladeforums.com.  Try looking for Bernard Levine's forum- he has forums at both sites, and he may be able to provide more info.
