I'm a latecomer to this thread, but I like the idea of dividers put in there!

Though it is similar to some of the pill cases out there. But, this is a DIY, and looks to any unsuspecting outsiders...like an Altoids tin survival kit. But no! It's a multi-celled pill/candy/lozenge holder!!

Ok. Sorry.

Ok, here's mine!!! In The Netherlands we don't seem to have Altoids. Instead I bought 'Barkleys' at Xenos. I keep everything together with a wristband from Pink Ribbon. Fits exactly…

And here's the tin filled. At the top there's a lens cloth. Always comes in handy and keeps everything from rattling.

What's all in there?

In the lid there's the striker for the matches, 2 x € 0,50 coins, and some bookmarkers.

What's inside:

  • Refreshning towel
  • Pen, a Stabilo filling
  • Straws filled with pins, tooth picks, salt, pepper and coffee sweets
  • 2 GB USB
  • Tie-wrap
  • Hay fever meds
  • 2 Ibuprofen wrapped in tin foil
  • 4 Safety Pins
  • Nail Clipper
  • Gum
  • Matches wrapped in plastic
  • Bic mini lighter
  • Little Pocket Knife
  • Band Aids in different sizes
  • 2 Paperclips

If you think I can do better or have to change anything, just let me know. Always willing to improve…

This is a lot in handy box! Looking good!  :tu:  :salute:

I only wonder why you wrap the Ibuprofen in tin foil? I am not sure how this affects them, as the original package is removed. I just cut the blister to size and leave them in there.

And I have no experience with those 'survival' tins, I have plans to build one myself, but that is just a plan, at the moment.

The wrappings from the Ibuprofen are way to big. This is just to save space. Don't think it will affect them…

Nice setup, Serena.

I'd only add some needle and thread, and maybe a button or two.

Could we see more of the small pocket knife? What does the knife tang say, what's the brand?

It's not a brand. Just a little thing I've got from my union.
I can't sew, so no need for needle and thread.

But that one is really 'fat'. Need the space, it's just a little tin.

Here are a couple of uses for the little Altoids Smalls tins.

First, a screwdriver bit kit.  The Smalls tins are nice for this.  20 standard 1/4" drive bits will fit in quite snugly.

In my bit kit I have 8 1/4" bits and 12 4mm bits, plus bit adapters for both.  I had trouble finding any sort of 4mm bit adapter, so I made one by gluing a small magnet into a standard 4mm socket.  To keep the bits organised I made some little holders from 0.005" brass sheet, soldered together at the joints.

Number 2: pocketable citronella candles.  For these you need to seal up the hinge holes with something moderately heat resistant; I used aluminium foil tape that's typically used for sealing ductwork.

Only 16 months, that's not the longest sleep this thread has had :)
Now what everyone else has come up with to do with their Altoids tins since then?

Um, let's see, I had to go back to the beginning to see what I posted.. Anyway since then I took another tin painted the top red with a cross and downsized my fak, by like a whopping 3 band aids, because I carry a new mini set in my wallet, but hey, it looks better!
JR

Oh and if your curious, the wallet set is three pics, one of the front, back, and all spread out, it's a plastic photo guard for a wallet, all six band aids and two wipes fit nice!
