Leatherman Wave Sheath Question
« on: November 21, 2011, 01:57:00 AM »
My wife is getting a black Leatherman Wave here shortly for my birthday. The nylon sheath with the flashlight loop, is there room in the sheath for the bit extender, and bits? What about the other sheaths for the Wave, is there room for the bits and bit extender? Can you show me photos of your Wave with the bits, etc., in the sheath? Also, are some of the sheaths bulkier than others? I want one on my belt that's as close to the body as possible. Sorry for all the questions. Thanks!

Are you sure it is not coming with the Molle sheath? I normally only see the Black Oxide Wave come with the Molle sheath, but I could be wrong.

Yes, it comes with the molle sheath, but I was wondering about the different sheaths that are available. Do the extra bits, etc., fit in the sheath. I was especially wondering about the sheath with the flashlight loop.

Alright. Well if you get this

http://www.leatherman.com/accessories/product/Premium_Nylon_Sheath_I

than you can fit your Wave, Bit extension in one side loop, flashlight in the other side loop and one sleeve of bits form your bit kit inside the sheath behind the tool. You might be able to get both in there but it would be tight. Let me pull a Wave out and try real quick.  :tu:

Here's the pictures.  :tu:

I personally hate carrying stuff on my belt unless it is absolutely necessary and this would be to big for me to carry, but some do it every day and are happy as could be.

Thanks! I was wondering how heavy these tools were. I have a Gerber Crux, and a Gerber Diesel, and I don't think they're overly heavy. I guess the sheath you took photos of will only handle a small light. I have a AA Maglite, but it's a little longer then the normal ones. It's the one with the multi functions. It's the one here in my EDC pouch. http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,32273.0.html

Not a problem. Glad I could help.  I doubt you would want to carry a 2AA Maglite in the sheath I have picture if it would even fit in the sleeve. Your EDC pouch looks quite large so if you can carry that without issue I think you would be very happy carrying what I took pictures of (minus the light) and carrying the Maglite in a dedicated sheath. The Wave is not extremely heavy 8.5 oz | 241 g, but once you start adding all the accessories it gets to heavy and bulky for my personal liking. Again I don't like anything on my belt you it may vary greatly for you. I forgot to mention you may carry the sheath vertical or horizontal.

Yeah, I don't think the Maglite would even fit in there. I didn't like the EDC pouch. Looked good in the store, but way too bulky. That's the problem with adding the accessories, too bulky. If you can get things side by side, not so bad. But when there's something in front of the other, it sticks out too far. Again, thanks for all your help, appreciated.

@ The Warrior -haya, just wanted to say i carry my wave on my belt with both bit kits, the bit extender(left loop) and a fenix e05(right loop) and have done for about a year at work now, and its been great to me. as long as you have a strong belt that dont loosen then it should be fine. i find it really comfy now.

there's only two things that sometimes bother me.

1) if its cold and you have a jumper on, it sometimes feels like its making your jumper ride up above it, which in winter can make you get a cold breeze up your top.

and 2) when you go to the toilet, dont let go of your trousers/jeans when you pull them down as they go down FAST with the added weigh on it. it once caused my phone to fall out my pocket and go into the stall next door at work.

other than that its a great kit for its size.

@ captain spaulding - what light do you keep in the side loop??? looks a little on the bigger side. is it easy to get in and out? looks good

I actually rarely carry the Wave with anything else in the sheath. I just threw that together for a picture to show it can be done and how big everything is. The light is actually a Garrity I bought online a while back. If I remember correctly I bought it because I needed another $1 or $2 to get free shipping from Amazon so decided to get it. I am actually very impressed with it and would buy another if I could find it at that price. It is a better light than the Key-Chain Maglite, but is no Fenix E01 or E05. For a fraction of the price of either of those it has been very impressive. One thing I noticed is the light beam is very circular and clean around the edges.

looks like a nice little light. if you was to have it in the side of the sheath, the wider head on it would make it easier to get out. at first i had my  fenix e05 in the side and it was a bitch to get out but with a rope fob (like people do with paracord) its easyer to get to. now id say a fenix e01/e05 is a perfect fit for the job.

I could definitely see that happening with the E01/E05. I have been meaning to get a E05, but just got another E01 as a backup since my Fenix I have now is awesome.  :tu:

A bit to bulky for my EDC, but that's just me.
