Ultimate essentials SAK mod idea

Ideally I would have the time to make this myself, but as full time junior doctor preparing for interviews for specialty training, with research on the side, its a pipe dream.

So maybe someone else will think this is a good idea and make it.

Basically the idea is to have a very pocketable tool which only has the tools on it which are used most often, and is legal for carry in the UK.

1) pliers
2) cybertool bit driver
3) scissors
4) awl

I think these tools would pretty much do 95% of the tasks I require a multitool for. And the lack of a knife (however small and non-locking) would mean I would even be able to use this at work.

To top it all, some beautiful alox scales, maybe black, to suit the bits of the bit driver.

I believe a cybertool 34 has all these tools on plus plenty to spare, if I was to buy one, is there anyone local (UK) who I could send it to to make this mod, keep the rest of the tools that aren't used, and I am willing to pay some on top for workmanship, and of course for alox scales.

I have ordered a cybertool from Amazon.co.uk, will probably arrive in the new year.

If there are any UK modders happy to do this small project for me, I would be happy to let them keep any tools that come of the knife which I don't want in the final, and am willing to pay on top if required.

Just need to figure out where to get black alox scales from.

Sounds like a worthwhile mod there sir. Wish I had the time/skills to help you with it. You should definitely send a PM off to Neil, so you can be near the head of the line when he gets back into mod mode.

I second the creation of a name

What about the Ultimate Gripper. There is a hot dog place here in town that has an Ultimate Gripper, but for a whole other reason (think chest gripping )

That's going to cost a bit. You may want to ask how many springs or donor alox knives you will need for that. That or either go with some custom micarta or g10 scales to keep the cost a bit lower.

Steve, is the cost because of the black alox scales I mentioned? Ideally I want HA scales, so in a way it doesn't matter what the starting colour is, but I'm guessing those are even more expensive and hard to get.

Bob, that is a good idea to send a message to Neil, I will get right on that. The cybertool should definitely have arrived by early in the new year, and that has all the tools I want on it, so can ship that off to him if he agrees.

Now in terms of a name... thank you for the suggestion Metropolicity, but given the small hardcore tweezer nature of the SAK pliers, 'Ultimate Gripper' would be a parody of a name 

I suppose I would have to think about why I am making the mod, and that is the essential nature of these tools compared to the rest found on a SAK or multitool, in my experience anyway, and the desire for a minimalist tool.

So something including one or more of the following, or something similar:

Urban
Minimalist
Essentials
City
Bare Necessities (I have watched the Disney Jungle Book recently)


No specific name coming to mind yet will think about it more.

So how about the more serious 'The Minimalist' or the more tongue in cheek 'Bare Necessities'

I was born in the UK, but my father is from the part of the Indian sub-continant now called Pakistan.

The pic in my profile is my son, but he is a lot older now, just over 2 years. And VERY interested in tools and drills and hammers. Takes after his grandfather!

Anyway, I don't want to derail my own thread 

Any other thoughts on the name 'Bare Necessities' for this SAK mod suggestion? Name is beginning to grow on me.
