Leatherman Charge TTi

I'd just like to point out that the Leatherman Charge TTi remains the best multitool, in the world, ever.

So there :D

I agree. :D

I was going to buy a second one just to have it mint in the box for future generations (lol) or emergency but official dealer here where I live just jacked up the price by 20% (they sold butt loads of them and other Leathermans during christmas and they are trying to make current supply last longer - lol)

Can of worms anyone? ;) freshly opened! :) :p

Mmm... It's definitely up there. Metro is going to hook me up with one (that stand-up-guy), should have it before January is out. SWMBO loves her tti (as do I). *cough* *cough* *spirit* *cough* :)

I have spares, but have never needed them. That Charge in the picture has been used and abused for years and keeps coming back for more.

Oh please don't on my account. But if you're going to bang on about the inferior Spirit - there's a forum for that.

 Yes, I'm a big Spirit fan - but long story short and keeping this diplomatic  :P, in my opinion there is no best tool ever - that's far too subjective. The TTI is not on my wishlist though TBH.

I'm happy with the AL even though it rarely sees use. I have no call for the gut hook or cap crimpers, and I personally feel the AL is better looking (I know many would disagree). As I've said before though, I had to buy an AL after they went to all the trouble of naming a tool after me ...  :P  :D

My personal preference is for fully outboard tools and a blade I can touch up on the go - though in fairness I tend to carry a dedicated blade anyway and seldom use multitool blades. I find the Wave to be an excellent work tool since I've stripped the innards out of it (now residing in my Kick). The AL has all the great features of the Wave but with a sprinkle of something special about it, and it's role is actually as back up at home for the Swisstool in my EDC bag. I like it a lot, but right now I prefer something else in the bag. As for general on person carry, or even job/scenario specific carry, I have a range of different tools by several different makers (Gerber, Victorinox, Wenger, Bear, Leatherman, SOG, and off-brands), all of which I feel suit me better depending where I'm going and what I'm doing - none of which would be displaced in their role by a TTI for me

If we're talking purely Leatherman and for some reason cross brand comparisons are out (I personally like to think a lot more broadly than just any one brand) I'd have to say the AL is my favourite offering from LM, closely followed by the Wave and the Mini. That said, the modified Wave is the most used and carried, followed by the Mini and Micra (with other goodies) in an Altoids tin tool kit. For now at least, the Charge is pending deployment

I thought that was a very pro-LM post ... for me  >:D

I know many people think they're great and if the TTI is what works for them, that's great :tu:
Worlds Best Ever though? Nah, I'll pass on that one thanks ;)  :D :D

All hail the Mini
My little tool tin concept was initially dreamed up purely to figure out a way of making the Mini part of my carry options. How sad is THAT!!  :D :D :D

I'll agree that the Charge series are the best MT, with specific flavor depending on personal needs (AL, ALX, TTi)

As I've said before, after a dismal diesel injector line repair from a Vic Spirit, that tool was relegated to the back of the drawer.  Just too slippery to use effectively.

At this point, I'd like to stump for the Leatherman Crunch.  It's more pocketable than a Charge and has those lovely locking jaws... :dd:

Just a note about the slipperiness of the vic spirits: use a strip of "cloth" duct tape (not the normal) along the side of the handles. It gives much more grip and even helps to protect the tool. This is a general trick you can use for various things: on the wood handle of a hammer, on the bottom of a slippery shoe, and so on.

Once again, I'll concede a Spirit would not be my first choice for "dirty work". One thing the Wave/Charge line must be applauded for is their attempt to try and cover all bases with one tool. It does try to give a one tool for all occasions solution, being just as happy in the woods as in the engine bay or a tradesmans toolbox. OK, being an awkward bugger it doesn't gel with my personal preferences - but that where subjectivity comes in. I use the Wave in an oily, gritty and downright grim setting, because it's the best tool I've found for the job ... up in the office however, even if it wasn't riddled with oil and grit, I'd be wanting other tools by my side

I'm still to-ing and fro-ing about a locking jaws multi. The Crunch is the only one I've ever seen and ... well I wasn't convinced, but somehow not really put off either. I can't remember who had one at the UK meet  If the tool set was different I might be more inclined to bite the bullet. No doubt there'll come a day at some point when locking pliers would have made things way easier and my mind will be made up for me. Till then I'll sit on the fence and just keep listening to tales of how yours saved the day   :D
