Leatherman OHT
on: January 18, 2012, 04:07:10 AM
We didn't have our meeting at Leatherman today, we just stopped by on our way somewhere else, but here are some preliminary photos of the new One Handed Tool:

Sliding head Leatherman?

More and better pictures tomorrow.

It doesn indeed look like every tool on it can be opened one handed.

Finally a tool for nailbiters!  :ahhh

I think there is going to be an OHT in my future.   Will there be a pocket clip or lanyard ring for it?

I still can't stop translating "OHT" to "One Handed Trekker" in my head.

It looks like a great tool for the military and public safety markets. Probably not of much interest to most of us aside from as a collection piece. I like the idea of Cerakote but it does concern me a bit that it's already wearing off on the plier head after a day of being played with, hopefully that's just a prototype fluke.

I don't know what to think here without seeing the inner tools.  It seems like a good idea but at first glance it doesn't seem as sturdy as the gerber sliding designs.

You either huh?  I have the same problem.

Sorry, I forgot to post this pic- I was in such a hurry to get stuff up I must have missed it.

How did it feel , solid ? Re : the Ceracoat , it might just be a proto , not actual production ceracoat . The stuff I've seen on guns is pretty tuff .

I'll be on the lookout for one when they come out .

The entire tool itself seemed a bit.....big, and cumbersome. :-\  Especially for the length of the blades and the size of the pliers it had. :(  Essentially it seemed like a "Super Tool sized" tool with "PST-sized" pliers and blades.

In Leatherman's defense though, we were told that these are still just early prototypes. Release date for the OHT is supposed to be 3rd quarter 2012, so hopefully they will juggle the proportions between now and then. :salute:

The retail price for the OHT will be in the $80 range.  Much less than a MUT.

Military types? I keep asking that question about a lot of tools , sidekick immediately comes to mind.

I've used and dont mind a saw, IF theres room, not in place of scissors, or a file .

As for the tool itself, other than the one hand opening of all tools, I just keep thinking it looks like gerber ripped LM off, and improved the design.

A huge brick that can be opened with one hand.

it is like a concept mock up that went to production too soon.  Look at the tools, they still have nail nicks like they just borrowed them for this tool, without redesigning them for it specifically.

And IMO a one handed opening tool needs a pocket clip.  If the whole concept is quick draw and deployment, then this thing just seems too unwieldy to fill that role. its like the gerber radius it looks interesting by itself until you see it with something next to if for scale, and realize it is a giant tank.

We'll have all the pics you need this evening.  Leatherman is our first stop today and we'll get out the light tent, tripods and all the gear we need to take some good pics of these tools so you should have everything you want to know about them answered!

Looks promising just wish it close properly like the other LM multitools and loose the spring less moving parts to fail. Just my opinion.

Great tool!

As a firefighter I'm buying it ASAP!! It looks excellent to work with gloves on and all tools are one hand opening. Can't wait to see reviews. I just hope they will do something with dimensions !

It's not a tool for military (why they would make one when you have MUT?)

I'm sticking with my opinion of it as a tactical camping tool. One you don't have to set your s'more down to use. I'll be in line to buy one for sure.
