New SOG Tool- PowerDuo
on: January 18, 2012, 05:13:35 AM
As Nikos said in the other thread, SOG does indeed have a new multitool coming out, and it should be available in a month or so.  It's the PowerDuo, and here are a few pics we took of both the silver and black versions:

Pretty sweet huh?

And according to Chris, the PowerDuo is pretty far along on the production schedule. Both the regular and the black finish models should be available in late March/early April :)

Is it my sick, twisted imagination??  Or has SOG been snooping around the Victorinox and Wenger plants??

I saw this one last year but I was sworn to secrecy about it.  At the time, my first thought was that it is a combination One Handed Trekker merged with a Pocket Power Plier.

I actually like this tool, and I think it's great to see SOG finally putting out a new tool.  The Power Assist was a nice tool but it was really little more than a variation on the PowerLock, and this is the first all-new tool to come out of them in a long time.

Very interesting.  I can see the Vic comparison as well, though the blade pivots out of the 'wrong' end for that. ;)

For some reason I'm looking at the Phillips head and am a touch concerned. :-\  I know it's only a picture and that this is a prototype anyway, but I'm just getting a slightly cheap vibe from it.  Am I being totally unfair?

Other than that I think this is a good looking tool, though not one I feel a desperate need to own myself. :)

Gareth, now that you point it out, the Phillips screwdriver does look a bit poop, not at all like SOG's usual Phillips, maybe it'll be changed

So, the blade has back lock and the tools axis lock ?? If that's so is somehow impressive. I like this design in fact.

The phillips and the tool finish isn't that hot but when i saw it it was everything i've wanted out of an Victorinox OHT... Wish they just went all out and have the blade open on the correct end.

Like this one, although wish the implements get changed, when's the last time you used a bottle opener/can opener on a multitool.

Uh-huh, we thought the same thing as soon as we saw the PowerDuo.

Incidentally though, when we brought up the comparison to the SL-plier with the SOG folks (and as you recall, SOG purchased ToolLogic a bit over a year ago) we were met with solemn looks. It seems that the SLPLY has been discontinued for 2012.... :-\    (conspiracy theory anyone?) >:D :D

Thats a shame the discontinued it  but does sound odd  ;) although does it now make the sl pliers a rare tool  ::) better pack mine away  :D

How do you like the toollogic sl, I was thinking of getting one but wasnt sure if it would be made well enough.

Im actually interested in both of these, kinda underwhelmed with the can and bottle opener pair, but maybe it can be swapped out with other sog implements.

I first got the Toollogic sl 3 fire and really liked it so i went for the SL pliers as well, both well made and although the driver bits are a little short ,everything else works great, build very good, if your after a Knife based MT with drivers and small pliers this is spot on  :tu:

You guys are asking the wrong questions ::)  How much? Can I chage the tools on it? and Can I take off the scales and put a Vic pen in there?

I think the MSRP on this one was $59.99 so expect to see it in the $40 range.

I don't believe the tools will be interchangeable as with other SOG multitools.  They could be, but given the individual backsprings, liners and different screws (uses stars like Leatherman rather than hexes like previous models) so while it is possible, I am not certain it would be as casual a swap as other SOGs.

I couldn't tell without a side by side look, but my guess is these scales are not Victorinox scales, they just have similar ergonomics.  I'm sure the mounting points are different.

This looks like a poorly-executed rip off of several Vic designs.

Seems to be the norm with their cheaper line of knives/tools......

I have some very good quality knives from them. Their USA multitools are excellent.

This? Not so much.... or even close for that matter.
