I haven't followed Tool Logic for some time now and didn't know about the SL Pliers. I just got myself a copy off eBay.  :salute:

The quality of the PowerDuo seemed fine to me (except for that phillips driver) but I'm still not sure if the whole large-knife-multitool concept works for me..?

In any case, a few subtleties that you might be interested in:

Plier jaws are tapered on one side, flat on the other, just like the Pocket Power Plier.

Stainless steel liners between each blade, instead of aluminum.

Lots of internal cutouts to reduce weight.

Slot cut into plier handle, which makes it easy to use your thumb to one-hand-open the pliers

In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

If they can get that Phillips sorted, yeah. I think this is one of the better looking minimalist tools, and while it might not be as pocketable as the Octane, or have the Skele's bottle opening prowess - I think this is going to find it's way into a few pockets over the course of the year. I see this more as a competitor against Vic's 111mm and Wengers 120mm lines rather than the Octane/Skele

If I was after a pliers and knife minimalist tool, this may very well be it, on both of those fronts it doesn't seem to skimp.

It is a shame it doesnt have a bit driver instead of the individual drivers.

The more I look at it, the more I like the tool.  Still not a fan of cut-outs instead of nail nicks, but that's a personal beef.  I think I'd rather carry this tool than a Skeletool, honestly. :tu:

(Image removed from quote.)

I have been wondering how you deploy the pliers , are they locked into the handle & require unlocking to deploy or do they have a detent system & you use your thumb to open them  .
Be cool if you could flick them open & pretend they are like a Switchplier  :D :D

If you grab the smaller handle you can flick them open in typical SOG tool style, but watch out as that larger handle gets hungry and takes a chunk from your finger when it comes back around!

I bet it would have done if 111mm Vic's had them as standard :pok: :D :D :D

I think you're right. Nice to see a minimalist tool sporting a plain edged blade too, rather than a combo

Is there any personal experience with the SOG PowerDuo?
My latest MT isn't here yet, so I startes thinking about the next one
I always wanted a SAK complement. My Swisschamp has everything and the only I miss is a good size of pliers and a close to axis blade OHO of substantial length.
I long considered a Skeletool (or a Freestyle) but it didn't happen yet. This is SAK-like (reminds me of a Vic 111mm) and I would take benefit of the compound leverage (I never had a tool with that).
Other options are the Wengers 120mm with pliers but this SOG appeals to me more than them and the Skeletools.
Do we have a review of it?

Thanks. I've seen two threads about it. Poor QC. I'll stick with Leatherman and Victorinox then, a Charge or Spirit will do it.

I just picked up a new SOG PowerDuo in black. It looks nice, especially with the wider blade.

That was the good news.  The bad news is that as soon as I opened one of the inner tools and pushed the lock switch to close it, it made a slight grinding noise.  A small black pin dropped out of the tool and now none of the inner tools lock in place.  Ugh.  I can understand how some things may fail due to quality reasons or use over time, but not right out of the box.  I'm disappointed but will be sending back to SOG for warranty service.

Just received notice that my PowerDuo has shipped from SOG.  I expect to see it delivered by Friday.

Odd though that I never received notice that they had received it, but happy that they turned it around so quickly.  From the receipt of the MT by SOG on Thursday to a possible delivery by Friday morning, total time would be 8 days. Not bad.

I'll update this thread when I actually receive it.

Can we stop bumping theis thread now?
I had almost forgotten that I want a PowerDuo.
Now I do want one.
Where is Kirky? I need to  :twak: someone.
Or as an alternative: anybody want to trade a Power Duo?
I know, they are badly made. I know the concept is debateable. I know the usual SOG parts won´t fit.
I want it anyways.

At the risk of forcing lowtech to want to go out and purchase another MT, I will continue to share my experience with SOG warranty service.

I received a replacement PowerDuo exactly 6 days after SOG received the defective MT.  A new, in box, PowerDuo along with a short work order telling me that it was a replacement and to apologize for the problem.

Compared other model that I had returned, I have noticed that the lock switch and changed to a larger, more robust switch that seems to work well.

I will try to post pictures at me earliest opportunity.

Thanks to all.
