Again, crappy pics, but we will have better ones tomorrow.

It looks an awful lot like another tool I have....

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the Z-rex frame is made from cast aluminum, and it has a (reversable) 420SS cutting head and a carbide glass breaker insert on the opposite end.

I wonder if the 420 blade is still made from scraps from production. Could be the tip of a Wave PE blade at the hook portion.

The aluminum and carbide parts are definitely correct, and I think the 420 head is correct. Juli did an intro video for the three new LMs on FB earlier, and listed the Z-Rex specs.

Okay thanks. :salute:

Yeah, it does seem a little odd; originally the Z-rex was pitched as just a useful way to use up some leftover material, which just happened to have this approximate shape. Now they go through the time and expense of producing a mold to cast an aluminum frame in this same shape.....a shape that looks uncannily like the earlier Benchmade

I think Leatherman should change its motto to: Leave nothing uncopied  :D

In Leatherman's defense, I think Benchmade got the idea from Gerber too, and there may have been someone else doing it even before then.

And, when it comes to rescue tools, as far as I'm concerned, any advancement is a good thing.  Whether the Z-Rex is an actual advancement remains to be seen.

Probably to allow for the wearing of either cold weather or protective gloves.

Hmm...

Not sure what to make of this one.  Almost too specialized as a rescue tool.  No way to use it as a prybar, semi exposed fixed blade (I suspect fingers and gloves could get snagged by it)  And I'm not sure I'd want that blade facing my hand while I broke out windows.

Looks cool, but I'm not convinced. :-\

Agree

My though as well.  I'm not sure that it offers any great advantage over the ResQMe and is a much larger device. :-\
