Titanium cup?

Anyone have any experience with these? Im wanting to get one but have no clue. I like the idea of having a cup with me and usable to boil water in an emergency if need be. Can use use the double walled to boil water? Do they make a collapsible version. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Haven't seen a collapsible one but there are a few around which fit a litre nalgene in them very nicely. I have a steel one which works for that purpose.

Check EMS or Campmor or REI, If i am not mistaken i saw one at one of those stores. I have guide shops near me, i will check it out and let you know.

I have one of these.




It is lightweight, very thin, has folding handles, and a sort of cool factor. This is a single wall version and it can be used to boil water if you are travelling light, though I prefer to use a mini kettle. Double wall versions cannot be used for boiling.

The negative is drinks go cold quite quickly. I much prefer using a double walled stainless steel mug.

SnowPeak makes awesome Ti cups...both single walled and double walled. REI carries them. I think though they recommend single wall for boiling. Not the double walled versions.

Well what I really want is a small cup and be used in a fire, fuel, or alcohol burner. I have made several burners no problem.  Finding a good cup at a decent price is the problem.

Personally Steve I'd stick to a single walled stainless one like the first one in that link I posted above. Ti is a bad conductor of heat anyway, so stainless would be better in that respect, and I think it would be far more durable for the few extra grams in weight

That's a good point. I'll have to research that a little bit. My friend is still looking for a convex end stainless water bottle but I have no idea on that. He goes camping more times a year than I mod knives lol.

Steve, has he looked at Klean Kanteen?  You can boil water in their non-insulated bottles; likewise, Nalgene/Guyot stainless steel bottles might also be possibilities.

FWIW I've had a GI issue stainless for years. It's not light like Ti but I never worry about breaking or overheating it.
