The Skinth SP (Smart Phone)
« on: January 19, 2012, 09:02:04 PM »
I have been going back and forth on trying to design a smart phone belt carry case. It's a very saturated market...yet..there is so much room for improvement. Even my first go at this one, I can already spot places where I could improve.

Anyways, here's The Skinth SP

Inside, an iPhone4, but it can accomodate most smart phones.

This is where I thought it could have improvement. After installing the top flap pocket, I immediately saw a need for a locking device for the cards...or even better, horizontal slots for up to 3 cards. MKII will have this resolved.

On top of the phone, I made a pocket wide and short enough for credit/debit cards. This will be the most secure place for them. Since they are guarded by a 2" strip of noisy velcro. You will also see here an AAA flashlight fits in the side pockets. Normally I would close these up at the bottom, but most AAA lights have clips and they work nicely in an open bottom design. The open bottom also allows for a pen to be carried (A Stainless Embassy pen opposite). However, the botoms can be easily closed, also the width of the pocket can be varied if requested.

This particular one I added the T-hook attachment since I haven't actually added it to any of my projects. It's a sturdy alternative to the fragile D-ring. You can also see here a Leatherman Serac S2 light fits well.

And one more to show off my black Emabassy pen.

I think these can reasonably sell these for $45 (shipped) if anyone is interested.

MKII! Horizontal Straps and Pentapocket Options!
« Reply #4 on: January 20, 2012, 12:55:03 AM »
That didn't take long.

Made some better measurements and added my signature PentaPocket to the design.

The PentaPocket able to hold various skinny items, pry bars, bandaids, tweezers, etc.

The top holds credit/debit/operators licence/business cards

I hope to add a metal belt clip so it can be easy on and easy off, but for now the addition of Horizontal carry straps make for a great carry option.

and first time ever, a photo of a Skinth product in the wild! (sorta...)

The Skinth SP XL!
« Reply #9 on: January 25, 2012, 07:59:10 PM »
Here's a custom one for a EDCF member!

Room for a Quark123 with 2 CR123 batteries, a pen, a open bottom front panel for a full size folding knife and ONE mega sized main compartment for his MASSIVE phone

I call it The SkinthSP XL!

The puny iPhone4 is dwarfed by it's massive size.

Complete open bottom construction cleans up the lines on the bottom, allows for a flow through design for larger knives and flashlights.

Excellent work Eric and eventhough I'm not a "sheath-guy", I'm very tempted.. :tu:
Have you thought about adding a string/strap to help pull the phone up from the case?  :)

You know the ironic part, I am not a sheath guy either...mostly because mos to of the current sheaths aren't that great. I wear one only when doing work where I'll be moving around and need tools. On a day to day, I carry my stuff more discreetly in my back pocket with one of my P3 Panels.
