New MP600 version
« on: January 20, 2012, 01:36:52 AM »
We forgot to get shots of this one at the show yesterday so we made sure to stop by and get them this morning before Bob left to go back home.  Before I go any further, I'd like to thank Bob for making the time to come out here and help with the show coverage.  Things are very busy at work for him right now and I'm certain they didn't get any better while he was here for three days!

Anyways, moving on, Bob told me last night when we got back to the hotel that we'd forgotten the new MP600, this incarnation called the MP600ST.

To the untrained eye, this might just look like a standard BO MP600, but that eye should know better!

One of the first things you should notice is the cutouts in the handle that allow for thicker tools like a 3D phillips without compromising internal space.  As Bob put it, 3D phillips in a 2D spot.

Speaking of internal space, it's mostly standard stuff in there with a few bonuses.

On top of the cool scraper, site adjustment tool and 3D phillips driver Bob wanted to make certain I got some good pics of the markings.

When we saw it on display yesterday Bob had mistakenly ID'ed it as some kind of new military Diesel since it has very Diesel-like locks.  I am wondering if the new MP600's are all going to this kind of lock tab, or if it's just this one.

That's about all I know about it, but here's the Sell Sheet from Gerber:

I'm very pleased to see them still working on the MP600 line, and I hope the longer Phillips and sleek lock tabs make it on to the rest of the range. :)

Another significant differance on this model is the knife blade. (see comparison below)

current MP600 wharnecliffe-style blade

I'm really liking the blade shapes that Gerber are putting on their MT's right now. :tu:  I just wish they could get over their combo edge fetish they seem to be stuck on. :-\

I take it they plan on putting an edge on that can opener for the first production run?

If they made a civilian version by replacing the sight adjustment tool with a standard hex bit adapter, I'd get one.

That is an awesome idea!!  I would love having one of those.  I am just getting familiar with my new MP600, but I can tell I will be carrying it for a long time.  I love the platform, and it's speediness allows me to forego my SAK or folder and just carry two multis, which doubles my overall tool abilities.  I work in a body shop but since I am not a tech, I'm management, I don't have any tools there so my multis get put to some serious use when we are trying to deliver a car and the techs are either too busy or have gone home.  And a hex adapter on the MP600 platform would thrill me to death, I would buy one tomorrow!

That's why we take our own pictures rather than relying on fancy mockups!  :D

I can pretty much guarantee that someone at Gerber is paying fairly close attention to these threads.
