I may be alone on this one, but I don't like the textured scales when the "groves" are large like that.

Have you thought about doing (or have done) old school ribbed scales?

I did some of those on 93mm Ti scales and they work fine.  Never did use them on a build though.

Do you still have them?

I havent got any pics of the Ti ones ribbed, but the prototype alox I did by hand were ribbed.

Its a nice look but the crosshatch is better grip as it provides grip in all directions.

I filled the cutout on this one with Al before I tumbled it and wondered if it would stay shiny or not.  It didnt get as dark as the Ti but did dark some.

The Al has a very nice look to it when used in the cutout. Kind of a complementary, understated logo for a working tool. Very nice!. :tu:

Ya I was pleasantly surprised by the cross.  Neat thing is if I was able to do home Al anodize I could anodized that cross after it was placed since the surrounding Ti would be unaffected by the sulfuric acid.

I forgot the customer wanted a clip on this so it now has one.  :D

Personally, I liked the effect the brass had on the titanium when anodized after installation. Very spontaneous design.

Would it work the other way around? Anodize the Ti with the Al in? Or would the Al be affected by the Ti anodize?

I'm thinking Blue Ti with plain Al cross would look sweet.

I gotta say im really enjoying doing the Ti 91mm work.  With the alox mods I always needed at least 2 SAKs to make one and then had left over bits.

Here's a tumbled super tinker I finished today with Aluminum cross.   :tu:

Actually Ive been looking into other color options.  Since I like to stick to a no-plastic rule, that eleminates any epoxy type filler.  But, there are brightly colored brass/Al mokumes that I want to try next.

Australian Airport Security firms would confiscate it anyway, as it looks like it has some vaguely pointy bits and somewhat sharp bits

its reflective surface can be used to shine a light on to their eyes causing temporary blindness...

that's when you sneak it through security.

This one is the 444th custom SAK Ive built since I started modding.

I wanted to try brass riveting Ti scales and then flush sanding to remove away all the hammer strikes. It worked out great!

It's a deluxe tinker with nail file hook on back, brass rivets, brass cross and polished scales.

Syph - I don't recall seeing any pics of a 91mm with the small blade, electricians blade, or hawk bill blade opposite an opener. Is this doable, or is it unique to the 93mm platform?

Nope those don't fit the modern opener spring, its very specific to the tools its used for.  It would be possible to put those blades in place of the normal small blade though.
