Amazing - Can't wait to see this one finished.

Is this a Syph brainchild or a request/suggestion?

Like the way you included the extra support for the fourth pin!!
Interesting you hollowed out under the cross members?
Will that be strong enough? - Or at least is there a chance the struts could get dented inwards???

I messed up my first attempt so I stress tested that one and let me tell you its plenty strong.  Youd have to pound on it with a hammer to dent it.  It went from 18 grams to 8 grams with the lightening process.  The cross member part is still 0.040" thick and in Ti alloy that is plenty.  If this was in brass then yes it would likely deform if abused.  Id have to leave that part thicker.

This was something thats been stirring around in my mind for awhile now.  Not sure if I love the skull but it fit with the skeletonize idea.  :D  Might look neat blue anodized.

I still have to design the backscale and machine that, then I can put together something.  I plan to offer skeletonized brass liners too to have the look without the weight.

Wow the TI must be so strong

I like the skull - Although a bit of a departure from a cross!!

Looking forward to the finished article  :)

I did start with a cross and that was my first test scale but it felt too plain.  I dont even know if people will want these but it shows off what the machine can do so its worth making some variants to show in a scales options lineup I think.

Maybe I should just try a crossbones set.  I dont know.  The problem with the freedom to make whatever you want means its hard to decide what is best...

That's very cool Syph.  It would be hard for me to decide on scales when such customization is possible :ahhh

Now that's sick! But in my case all I see is pocket lint getting cought in it, hmm  maybe that can be a good thing, a new tool, "the pocket cleaner" scales? lol

What about back filling the scale with a clear/colored poly or similar to prevent pocket lint and add a whole new color configuration option? You could even fill with brass or copper or different anodized titanium, but that would really add to the weight.  So many possibilities!  It's great to see what you are coming up with.

Skeletonised scale is awesome.  I can see the exotic inlay on it. 😊

The skeletonized scales looks great!! Have you thought about some inlays? Other than the cross, of course, some random patterns with g10, ctek or other materials? I know you were not a huge fan of these composites but I think that with the cnc milling machine it must be easier to work with.

Something like this:

btw, just noticed Glofindel's post, I got a little carried away by the possibilities and didn't pay much attention, sorry about that!

It would look good for sure.  The problem is machining plastics is not an ideal option on my mill since I use flood that would actively destroy any plastics on contact.  I could machine plastic dry though and maybe put a barrier around to keep the bits from going all over.  It wouldn't be too hard to cut a matching insert shape to fit the area ive machined out.  Then you get the benefit of Ti for structure and some options for color contrast.  I'll have to think more about whether thats possible.

Here's the finished skeletonized set.  I put a slot along the tweezer area so you can see the tweezers through there.  It was a bit harder to accommodate the slot in the pattern, but I finally like how it looks.  :D

Oh and a customer asked if I would try the tsuiki finish on Ti.  I thought I might as well and see as Ive wondered about that.

I know from experience Ti is soft enough to 'flow' so I beat on it before I made any holes or machining.  It ended up quite bowed so it was hammered flat then onto my milling fixuture.

Im quite happy with the look, and I didnt expect it to look so nice.

Ti really seems the way to go with SAK scales.  There is so much that can be done to them.  What a evolution and wonderful thread this has become.   :like:

Victorinox and LM should really hire a select few of our members to do their design for them. Not that they are doing such a bad job at the moment but still...  :gimme:

I have been saying this for years now.  I would love to see a Victorinox custom shoppe, LM custom shoppe.  Clearly there are those that will pay for these lovely specimens.

The skeletonized scales give such a depth to the SAK, and the anodized interior accentuate it even more. It gives another dimension to the knife. Ever thought about something in a Sinkevichish style? BTW you need to make a clip out of a solid billet, it would look awesome in one of your SAKs.

Nice! That's also like the perfect couple tools, the only thing is with all the lint in my pockets I'm sure it's going to pull some out! I guess that could be both good or bad, cleans the pockets out, or clogging the knife?

You could jsut run water through it every so often.  Easy to oil too that way.

Build weight of this is 62 grams.

True to both parts, so I guess it should then be an extra tool, what should it be called, the lint trap? lol..
