What would you do?
« on: January 21, 2012, 04:55:52 AM »
I'm getting a black alox cadet soon. I was wondering  would you add scissors and a saw? I have one set, a saw and scissors and springs to go with it. Would you add it? Or would you leave it as is? I've pondered this quite frequently and just wanted everyones input.

Well the obvious answer is find two more.   One for the pocket, one for the safe and one to mod.

But I know that is a little easier said than done with this color cadet.

I say go for it!!!  Unless of course you got it for it being super lightweight...

If youve only got one set of scissors and saw you wouldnt want to waste it on something that wasnt special, so Id go for it.  I'm putting those components on one of the orange cadets you helped me to get.
PM me if you are looking for custom alox work.

I love my Cadet+scissors mod.  Still very slim and pocket friendly, I'm not sure I'd still feel the same if it had the saw added.

Well my layer config will be:
1st- blade combo tool
2nd-saw
3rd-scissors

Maybe a backtool IDK yet about that
If I could get a metal file/saw to fit I would add it as well. Or if I had a mag glass and inline phillips.

Stick to that. That's the setup I wanted to suggest. I wouldn't go to more than 3 layers on an 84mm ALOX. Looses it's appeal.

Ya that sounds sweet to me.  I would think peening 4 layers with the super small brass rod would be tough to, more likely to bend inside.   I need to do alot more peening practice before I do any 84 mm mods, cant wait to see yours!

I'd set up for anodizing so I could have my Alox in any colors I like.
Or find someone else to do them.  :pok:

Who said I was using brass? ;)   FYI I'm not I'm using the alternative I found. I think that brass and black clash so I'm sticking to silver for this one. I left the alternative silver pin I found in salt water for 2 weeks. Still no pitting, rust, or other damage.

Great! :tu: The welding rods I found all get a patina over time, I have to go searching for some other manufacturers and compositions or you might send me some :pok:  :D

The kind you want are hobart 308 rods. Just knock the flux off, and hone to the right size. Just make sure the one you get has a high nickel content. I might make a few the right size. There are 2 sizes here 1/8 and 3/32.

Is it cheaper than the nickel silver rod from here?  This is where I bought mine, but again not the right size so it needs to be thinned.

Much cheaper. I get 16 rods 1/8 inch x 12 inches for $16.
