Speaking of John Lithgow
« on: January 25, 2012, 02:48:47 AM »
In the movie Cliffhanger John Lithgow plays an evil mastermind who has lost three cases of cash on the side of a mountain following a daring air to air robbery.  Sylvester Stallone plays a mountain guide who has to stop him using his superior mountain climbing skills.

In a scene that features neither of them, the old mountain rescue helicopter pilot uses a Spyderco (I think it was an Endura) to cut a BASE jumper out of his harness, then when the old man gets killed he slips the knife to Michael Rooker who uses it later to stab another bad guy in the leg.

Cliffhanger is one of those bad movies that I still watch when it's on.

I have the same problem!  I also think John Lithgow is a brilliant actor- he seems at home either as a bizarre alien trying to understand human ways, as a bloothirsty killer or as an evil mastermind.  His parts alone are worth watching the movie!

Plus with Leathermans in the backgrounds and Swiss Army Knives in his pockets plus some Spydies in the general vicinity, the man has some good taste when it comes to tools!  :D

Would be fun to pair John Lithgow up with Christopher Walken for nearly anything, comedy, thriller, sci-fi.

I agree!  Make them the kind of bad guys that hate eachother too- I'd love to see John Lithgow mocking/mimicking Christopher Walken!  :D

Was just watching John Lithgow last night in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes", a much better film than I feared it might have been and in a totally different league to Tim Burton's pile of poo.

Anyone know what the knife is that Ceasar steals?

To answer my own question, apparently it's a Gerber Chameleon.

That Gerber was my first "tactical" knife, bought it at walmart when I was in high school. Some MF stole it a couple of years ago. Kinda want to replace it despite it's crappy edge and impossible to open with one hand, but it's discontinued now.  :(

Jie, there's a guy down my way that /might/ have one.  I'd need to look through his stock the next time I visit his place.  Granted, his place is the kind that also has a couple CS Sharkies left over, too.  I know he was hit very hard during Christmas, though, so there's no telling if he sold out of a particular model or not. :/
