Skeletool/Freestyle question.
« on: January 21, 2008, 04:51:43 PM »
Hey guys, I have been on a minimalism kick lately, and have decided to do an experiment and carry juts one pocketknife for a year, my Case Peanut.  However, for work I have been told to carry a multitool.  everyone is getting one, and since I have my own, I will have to do it.  However, in an attempt to continue my minimalist experiment, I have decided to carry only my Sideclip for a year.  However, I was wondering about getting a Freestyle or Skeletool to have as my bare bones multi.  My question, though, is in regards to their blade.  I saw somewhere that the knife blade is half serrated and half straight edge.  Is this true?  If so, is it true on all the models?  I kind've want a straight edge, and if it's a combo edge, then I'll just carry my sideclip.  Any thoughts?

I don't know much about anything (forrest gump) but my understanding is the CX-Skeletool has a combo edge and the Skeletool PE. No word I've seen tells about the Freestyle.

Hi,

Pictures of the Freestyle on the Leatherman website show a PE blade.  I understand that the Freestyle isn't coming out until May at the earliest.

If you use pliers at all, look at the difference between the Skeletool and SideClip.  I think the skeletool pliers are smaller than sideclip.

It is a great looking little piece of hi tech  kit, but I wounder how much Torque can you put on the blade?

It kinda looks like it just has the adjustment screw holding it like the CRKT Kiss Knife.

That's a good point... hadn't thought of that before. :-\ Hope they did a good job though, as a lot of the potential fans are sure to be of the knife using variety.

It is a ball detent. There is a small hole on the other side of the blade. It just acts as a secondary piece to hold the blade closed.  Your wave will have one also.

Ahhh, I see now. The Wave in front of me has a bulge in the metal. For some reason on that Skeletool close-up it actually looks like a little ball.
