And what do you think about this?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/131425585513?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I saw that last night and my first thought was "I wonder how long it takes for this to make the "Crazy" thread?"

My thoughts? It's laughable. The only Voyageurs that have ever even approached this price are old, red, and NIB. This one is silver and IMO quite used. Maybe if it was 100% perfect it'd be worth $300 or so - maybe. But this one? The alox is dinged, the scissors screw is all jacked up, the scissors spring is wrong.

$600 is the price a collector pays for a perfect example. This knife is far from that.

Yes optimistic and greedy

This guy is a TSA recycler - So considering everything was bought for next to nothing he is making a pretty penny.

I dealt with him about 18 months ago and to make the postage work better for me bought three items - He wanted to ship the items at about three times the single item shipping cost which was probably at least double the actual cost.
We had a short debate and he did reduce the shipping somewhat, but moaned a bit about loosing money and feeding his kids!!

I think I dealt with him once or twice since then though, just for everyday SAKs, and I have to say and everything was very smooth - and more reasonable postage too

This is clearly pre 1961 as it says in the description but do we think it is pre or post war ... its a tricky one :)

Surely not pre 1961?? ^^^ ???
Post 1992 - As double spring and riveted scissors??

..... Oh sorry chaps ..... Just realised the irony (bit slow today) - And I like irony - So I will wade in...

Definitely pre-war - I would say an original 'one-off' Karl Elsener design from about 1897

But where on earth did he get that 'pre-1961' from? I checked out the seller and he is not a SAK seller. Did you see all that crap about Gram/Gramps estate?? Come on - and your username is 'antiquessold'.

Hey - I see that Voyager we discussed on the previous page listed at $600 went for a best offer price.
Hmm - Was it a low offer, and the seller realised his over ambition? or a crazy buyer??
We'll never know unless someone here owns up!!

Here is another funny one:
According to the seller it is a 1987 Wenger Swiss Army knife - and a 'Great USA made knife'
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wenger-swiss-army-knife/291378361633?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D28797%26meid%3D85d1cfa37d904cfea5208a6574493b4a%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D121563917555
Was that the year Wenger moved their production plant to Detroit?

$300 for an un-branded German knockoff? Stupidity or cupidity?

oh damn, it's listed with the Global Shipping Scam so I couldn't bid on it even IF I WAS INSANE

Not what you are missing - It's what you have - ie a brain to question the price!! Unlike the bidders here.
You can even get them on ebay elsewhere for 13.15 USD
Hilarious
I guess the bidders think it's a rarity?

He usually has decent prices though. I bought a SAK or two from him before. But when you see the crazy prices people are ready to pay recently, you can't blame a bloke for trying. :P

Anyone interested in a EUR 225 Victorinox Sportsman? Granted, it comes in a nice (but not very special) Omega box, but still...

The watch world is weird. I've given up on the number of $10 watch case openers I've seen on eBay for $100-$200 simply because they had "Rolex", "Breitling" or "Omega" printed on them. I always wonder if anyone really buys them. If you own one of these watches, no way you'd ever use a knife to open them. A $5000+ watch goes back to the factory (or qualified repair facility) for speSmurfpillsts to work on it. I have an Omega and I'd never open it. And there are few things I'm not afraid to take apart.

So these are really for changing batteries on quartz watches. And in that case, do you really need a "Rolex" knife to change the battery on your Seiko?

What's so special about this?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Victorinox-Alox-Black-Pioneer-Soldier-Limited-Special-Edition-Very-Rare-/251919352780?hash=item3aa79043cc

BTW, this is the same guy flipping the pink Cadet.

You can get it a "little" cheaper here: http://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-54968-Pioneer-Knife/dp/B0019MLZB6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429031660&sr=8-1&keywords=victorinox+black+pioneer

Now I see... no key ring and no engraving panel in back. I bought one a few month ago for $77.00 and I am still asking myself why.

I just checked my ebay history, this is what I paid for it
US $56.00 + US $19.00 shipping
So since August last year, prices have more then tripled.

I would really like to have a 1983, but YIKES!

Keep looking. Except for 2008, 1983 is the most common year for Model 61 Soldier knives. Many to be found in excellent or even NIB condition.
