Here's a pic of my PPP with 1/4 bit, next to the medium screwdriver/bottle opener and file.

That pic tells the story - it's around the width of two thin tools.

I just took out my calipers and power lock.

1/4 inch driver is 3.90 mm, and yep looks to be about the width of 2 regular thin tools.

Well, you can lose the other drivers in theory, as you'll be using the 1/4" ones :)

I think I should point out that on the SOG website, the 1/4" drive is specified as Component Slots 2, Component Size Small.

http://sogknives.com/store/QTR-DRV.html

Whether or not I'm happy with their components, I do feel they're pretty up-front about them.

And SOG's prices are good, as is their shipping. They shipped me a part (that cost $12.74US) the next day and they paid $22US for shipping, AND they included a free gift that retails for $20. I was blown away! :)

I had problems with a number of the tools on my Powerlock. The 1/4" socket driver was not among them. I think it gives the tool a GREAT capacity for inexpensive expansions. Instead of being stuck buying proprietary bits (cough:Leatherman:cough), you can go down to the local hardware store to get sockets. And an inexpensive 1/4" to hex socket gets you access to all hex bits, for pretty much infinite driver abilities on the cheap. I have, however, heard of some issues with folks losing the little metal clip on the socket driver. So, heads up, there.

Otherwise, yeah. I'd ditch the can opener, scissors, saw... semi-serrated blade... most any other tools in favor of the socket driver.

Lynn i can live without tin openers, can openers and scissors as most of my SAK's cover thought, but i need the serrated saw and the wood saw, also i have lots of 1/4 bits so covered if i do change over, but my mod means i can use standard bits, i used LM's since 98 and never had any real issues other than the odd driver twisting or braking usualy my fault but i do like the fact that you can replace and mod Sogs yourself,i used my PT alot yesterday at work and love it,its a quirky MT ,and sogs CS seems very good, also im having fun having a LM free year so far  :D  :tu:

thanks everyone for all the advice on this but i think for now ill stick with how its set up and see how it goes through this year  :salute:
