As the title says, I discovered the Buck TravelMate Kit while browsing the site of a Dutch outdoor supplier.
Link to Buck: http://www.buckknives.com/index.cfm?event=product.detail&productID=4019

It looks interesting for camping use: a blunt nosed serrated, somewhat flexible blade and a sheath with a fork/camping tool coupled to it.  :multi:
It'll cost me right under 70 euros if I buy it in Holland, which isn't exactly cheap in my opinion

Wondering if it is worth investing in before my camping trip in a couple of weeks?
I'll be staying alone in a tent for almost two weeks, visiting mostly "civilized" campings and preparing food on my gas stove ("stormkjøkken" with gas burner) - i.e. no need for a large "Rambo type" knife, but rather something more sheeple-friendly.
If I decide to buy it, it'll see service a couple of weeks (summer holidays) and several weekends every year (not daily use).

So: any opinions?
Someone here who has used it?

For $15, maybe, for 70 euro, hell no.

Agreed. You could get a metal spork, a cold steel roach belly or canadian belt knife, and a victorinox tourist. You'd be better equipped and have plenty of money left over for a pizza and some beers to celebrate how cunning you were

Got to agree with that.  Even the French Army Knife would be a better choice.

While I agree that it's a lot more than I would be willing to pay, it's also not that much more than many other Buck knives and a heck of a lot less than lots of other kitchen knives out there.  Plus you get the fork/bottle opener thingy.  ;)

Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

OK, thank you all for your input :tu:

This thing is listed on Buck's website for $75,-- that's about €60,--.
Considering that I bought my original SuperTool in 2001 in Houston for less than half of what I would've paid at home, the difference of €10,-- doesn't seem too bad...
But it's still a lot of money

So, my decision is made: no new Buck for me this year.
Instead I'll be using my trusty LightMyFire meal kit (with spork) in combination with a newly purchased Victorinox tomato/sausage knife :)
That should give me almost the same functionality as this Buck (especially considering that I'll be taking some sort of SAK along as well).

One of the things about the TravelMate kit is that it's supposed to be a collector's piece, which is one of the reasons the price is a little high.
