Which multitool for my father?
on: April 15, 2015, 08:33:32 PM
I own Victorinox Cyber and i love it. Now i would like to buy one for my dad. He rides motorcycles, bikes and loves r/c models such as planes etc. He also likes a good quality tool. But he isn't too much into nature, woods, etc.

What do you recommend for 100 eur or less? I was thinking Leatherman Wave or one of Victorinox swisstool spirit models. One option could be Leatherman Skeletool CX, but it has a lot less tools.

Between those two, I'd go with a Wave too.

I don't work around engines, but I know the jobs there can be greasy, oil and all. And that might be a problem with a polished and smooth tool like the Spirit.

Also the Wave has bit drivers which in combination with the bit kit could come in handy with different kinds of screws one would encounter around a bike, or maybe R/C models. True, one could buy the LM bit adapter and use it on the Spirit phillips driver with the bits (that's what I do) but there's that slipperiness factor again.

Swisstool is the best. The finish is cleaner on it, and screams pure Swiss quality

And then there's gloves...   ;)

@OP, Maybe you should consider a SwissTool (the brick, not the Spirit) with a bit wrench.

Good size tools, a wider selection of screwdrivers and the wrench can be used with commonly available bits.

Not very handy as a pair of pliers, though  :-\  That's why I keep a SwissTool at home and carry a Spirit around.

My only slight issue with the Wave is that a lot of the bits available aren't metric.  Other than that it's as good a tool as any and a heck of a lot better than most.  I'd have a look at a Leatherman Rebar and a Gerber MP600 as well.  Both have optional extra bit kits available as well that will work with any 1\4" bits, if that something you think he might like.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

If his R/C modeling includes wiring, perhaps a pair of Leatherman Squirts (both Squirt PS4 and ES4)?

Vic Spirit is a beautiful tool but
Got to go the LM Wave with Bit Kit for versatility.
Eventually even McGyver got himself a Leatherman
