My family and I have been away on vacation last week, we went to Austria, to a place called Bürs in the state of Voralberg (the west of Austria, pinched between Germany, Lichtenstein, Switzerland and Italy).

I planned out a lot of hiking trails, only problem was the weather, seems like,in seven days, all four seasons passed there (sometimes even in one day ...  ::)).  We had sunny weather, fog, drizzle, heavy rain showers, rain of biblical proportions ... and even snow, yes, in the middle of August ... SNOW  :ahhh.  We also visited Vaduz, the capital of Lichtenstein, where I bought my two 130mm Saks, and where my son bought his camo Huntsman  ;).

I will be posting pics here the next couple of days of the trips we made (some with SAK, some without), some of these are taken with my regular Canon EOS 400, others are made with my small, waterproof Casio (for obvious reasons  ::)).  These last ones are not always best quality, but there were a couple of days my Canon stayed tugged away in my photobag, packed in a plastic bag and rain cover ...

Same for my Rebar, first time I took it with me on vacation and I never took it out of its plastic zip-bag.  Normally I take my ST300 with me on vacation, along with a Spirit, a Swisstool, my Swisschamp and my 111mm Vic Soldier.  Yes I know, overkill ... but I only take them with me so I can take pics of different knives/tools instead of always the same one (or at least that's what I'm telling myself  ;)).

Stay tuned, pics will follow  :D.

Here we go ...

One of our hikes was from a lake called "Lünersee" to a cabin called "Totalphütte".

The day started out overcast, but dry, but halfway through the climb we entered the clouds and things got cold and moisty.  By the time we reached the Totalphütte (2385 M elevation) we were in need of a hot bold of soup with some slices of breath.  And while we were enjoying the warm soup and the heat in the cabin, it started to snow outside, so when we started the descent, things were looking even worse than during the climb ...

Here are some pics of my wife and my sons during the "dry part" of the climb.

Here's a pic of me and my oldest son (you can see my youngest son on the left, and my brother in the middle on the background) when we reached the Totalphütte after the climb.

So we started the descent in the snow, which changed into drizzle, and after a while we were still in the clouds, but it was relatively dry ...

Since it started to clear up a bit, it was time to take out some Saks and take some pics.

The weather got better and better, so the Canon came out  :D.

And once we reached the lake, the weather was quite good ...

We even had our own island there ... (I'm the one with the yellow raincover over his backpack).

Here's a pic of my brother, standing next to the rock wall on the side of the dam.

I hope you guys enjoy the pics  :salute:.

There's more to come ...

Here's part two  ;).

These are pics of our trip to the "Hoch Joch".  This was on one of the rare days that the weather was good ...  ::)

Since we (me,my wife and kids, my parents and my brother) climbed to the top of another mountain the day before, the original plan was to go to the top of the Hoch Joch with two different chair-lifts (not sure how you call these things in English) and do an easy hike on the top of the mountain, but due to the hiking trail being in pretty bad shape (I think they were building another one of those chair-lifts and doing so, destroyed a big part of the trail), we didn't make the closing time of the highest chair-lift, so we had to descent to the lower chair-lift in a hurry, before that one was closed to ... In case we didn't make that one either, we would have had a long descent ahead of us, which would have taken us long after sundown to get down to the valley.  And with only one person carrying two led-lights (guess who that was  :pok:), that would not have been a nice option ...

Anyway, we got to the lower chair-lift in time, luckily ...

Here are some pics:

On our way to the top:

The view was stunning, to say the least  8).

Then we went to the other side of the ridge and there were these beautiful mountain lakes, surrounded by mountain ridges ...

From these lakes there were these small creeks flowing into the valley.

This was another great trip for us, hope you guys enjoy the pics (and there's still a bit more to come  ;)).

I think these will be the last pics from my vacation in Austria.

These are taken during our hike through the Burser Schlucht, a narrow canyon.  Only bad thing that day was the weather, downpoor the entire day meant we would get wet, soaking wet ...  despite "The North Face" Gore-Tex, Jack Wolfskin "Texapore", we even tried umbrellas ...

All pics during this trip were taken with my waterproof Casio for obvious reasons, and since it was a wet and dark day, some of them might be a bit blurry  ::).

Like I said, rain, rain ... and rain  :(.

Like I said, probably the last pics from my vacation (I'll check all my pics to make sure I haven't overlooked a folder  ;)).

Hope you guys enjoyed them  :salute:.

Just found out I have pics of one more "Austria hike", but I will post them one of these days. Now I'll post a couple of pics taken yesterday, during a nice walk near my home.

Here are the last pics of my trip to Austria.

These were taken on top of the "Golmer Joch", a 2124m high peak in the south-west of Austria.  We went halfway up with the chair lift, and continued on foot to the top, only my brother, my oldest son and me reached the cross on top of the peak.  The view was stunning, we were literally with our heads in the clouds  ;).

Here are the pics:

These are taken near the end station of the highest chair lift:

On our way to the top ... (first pic is where we were going, second one is the view from where we came  ;)).

And finally, we reached the cross  8).

I hope you guys enjoyed the pics  :salute:.

P.S.: My vacation is officially over now, since I have to get up for work in five hours (I should be in bed now, instead of behind my laptop  ::)).

Great pic  :tu:.

Only thing that bothers me is the fact that they put those ridiculous paper stickers on the scales...  Some of those get of quite easily, but others  :poh:.  And even if they are "the easy" type, they will still leave a sticky spot on those beautiful red scales  ::).

Thanks for sharing mate  :salute:.
