Anyone ever see a network punchdown blade that...
« on: May 29, 2012, 05:59:38 PM »
Anyone ever see a network punchdown blade that fits a normal 1/4 inch drive handle?

Something that can be used in a Vic bit driver, or even ground down to fit a Leatherman bit adapter?

Can't seem to find them anywhere.

Nope :(  SOG do one for their MTs that I suppose could be chopped up and I've seen a LM flat tip ground down to do that.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I've never seen that either, but it would be pretty cool to have.

I had a network punchdown tool originally on my Paladin PT-510 ... and didn't have a clue what the heck it was supposed to be, so I'm no use I'm afraid  :-\

I think that was one of the tools that was missing on my Paladin or I'd donate it for a mod attempt.

I don't have it anymore. All the residual parts got put into a PPP which I gave away  :-\

The Paladin bits are proprietary in design for their punchdown tools and the ones in their MT's are of course permanent.

I can see where it would be somewhat simple to modify a standard LM flat driver, but I worry that a LM bit might be too hard, and fracture easily when ground thin enough to work.

I'm thinking that perhaps a flat driver from an economy priced bit set might be a better candidate for use

It is odd that Leatherman has never offered a punchdown blade for their bit driver. It would really open up the nerd market for them (this, of course, is assuming that many MT users are not already nerds... ;))

I have a spare cheap punch down tool, I wonder if I can pull it apart

I could probably ram a flat screwdriver bit in the end there if I filed it down a bit and job done  :2tu:

Bugger

I can grind the left over part?  :-\

I think its doable  :salute:

Hope this give you some ideas TS  :salute:
(sorry the pictures are not great  :-[  )

That looks promising Tony, I had only been looking at "name brand" punchdown tools, but it looks like the blade from a discount one will work well :tu:

Time for some shopping at dealextreme/eBay :D

The fracturing you experienced confirms my suspicion that the hardened bit steel can't take much modification. Good to know. :salute:

This one was on special offer so I picked it up as a spare, I have a good one somewhere
Its a shame the flat bit wouldn't fit as it would have been easy to do  :tu: but it shattered after I gave it a little with my medium hammer  ;)

That's actually pretty cool Tony :tu:

I have a couple of punch down tools, I used to use them a lot but its years since I last needed one.

I could be wrong, but doesn't the Gerber Cable Dawg have one?
