Gerber Crucial - Screw sizes?
« on: June 20, 2012, 11:12:10 AM »
Hello!

does anybody know what thread / pithc the screws are that held my Crucial together?
I took it apart and had o drill out one screw.

They are not metric and i have no gauge to testr size and thread pitch for Imperial/inch threads.

Thanks!

Ok, the ortographics in my first post are somewhat strange, but i guess you know what i wanted to know.
Did nobody take it´s Crucial apart?

Mine looked like this before.

I hope to have some "shop time" tonight so i can snap some pics of the parts.

  I can't actually think I've seen any pictures for a Crucial in bits.  Hopefully someone can help.

So I´ll make sure i do some so there are some for future reference.

Hopefully I´ll get it back together...

I plan on bead blating the scales and either keep them raw aluminium to gain some patina from getting used or bake on some crinkle finish black.

I´ll try to find scres locally, but maybe I´ll have to cry out for help here...

Ok, nobody so far, so I´ll post this for starters:

A Crucial apart, hopefully still all parts except for one screw i had to drill out.
Now I need to find one to replace it
Any hints on how to identify an Imperial thread? I´ve got calipers and a thread pitch gauge, although the thread is very small, so the gauge might not be of much help...

Just to add to this:

I bought a screw gauge and the used screws seem to be #5, NF with 44TPI - does this sound plausible to you?

and where can i find black screws with that thread in a similar design to the used ones or ss ones to replace them all?

Knifekits for example shows only size 4 scrws - apart from wanting about 30,- $ for shipment...

I did (as you might have guessed from teh pic) bead blasted the scales adn I am now unsure if I want to leave them raw and just polish them or if i want to use some wrinkle finish balck.

Opinions on this?

Could you do a crinkle camo finish ?
Do you have any good fastener/engineering suppliers near you that you could take the screw to ?

Well, most hardware stores / industrial supply stores are well equipped as long as i stay metric, but do only bigger orders of imperial/inch sizes.

I don´t know if I could do a Camo finish, probably would work, but I´m not much into that camo/tactical/hunting look.

Hopefully one of the US members will pick up on your screw issue later today. I'm sure someone will have exactly what you need  :tu:

If you really want to go to town on the colour you could try home anodising the aluminium parts. A nice dark purple would set off the blades nicely.
