Older SOG PowerLocks and other SOG tools have exposed gear teeth which can make using the multitool painful when applying downward force.

A flexible plastic pipe end cap can be placed temporarily over the end of the multitool to shield your palm from the sharp gear teeth.  A 1 inch (inner diameter) cap fits well over the end of the PowerLock.  A smaller diameter cap can be used to cover the teeth on other SOG multitools.

The pipe cap I used is very flexible and feels similar to the synthetic rubber material named Plasti Dip.  Sorry, I don't know of a supplier for these caps.  I found this one in a parking lot behind a home center store.

Necro-thread-resuccitation:
I use essentially the same idea, but I shrunk a length of shrink tubing over the gears. This has a few advantages, apart from the obvious protection. Depending on how tight you shrink it, it'll pop off and on easily, and it's quite a bit thinner than the end cap so will live on the end of the SOG when it's in a sheath, so it's harder to lose too.
