what is the benefit of this type of blade over a normal knife blade? Especially in this sort of set up which mimics a folding knife?

Nice, I didn't know a G10 version exists.  I have one of the silver ones and it's a handy little knife.  I will have to keep an eye out for it.

It's a utility blade meant for utility work.  Really handy for when you're working around the house or need a simple knife for opening packages.  What makes these ultility knives great is that the blade can be swapped out and replaced.  There's also a variety of utility blades (serrated, hooked, titanium-nitride coated, etc.) so you can install a blade more suited for your tasks.
This is called a Swiss Army Knife. Do you know what Switzerland is? Switzerland is a place where they don't like to fight, so they get people to do their fighting for them while they ski and eat chocolate. - Larry David

I've had a quick look around and cant find these in UK, at least not with G10. Thinking it might be easier enough to swap the black scales for orange.....

Anyways, if you find any, let me know where..... :tu:

That is very nice, gonna have to keep my eyes open for one.  I got an EAB last week as part of a trade, nice handy little sucker.  :tu:  I can't stand retractable snap off knives or old fashioned sliding box cutters (15 stitches on my palm from one of them once!  :ahhh), so the EAB makes for a nice alternative at work.
