Excellent choice Mike.  There are lots of choices out there but dollar for dollar (or pound for pound!) I really don't think any are better.  Fancier? Yes. Pricier? Yes. Better? Nope....

I'm looking forward to hearing what you think once you get it.  And, whatever you do, DON'T PRESS THE BLACK BUTTON!

I tried my res-Q-me on both tempered glass side windows and laminated glass windshields and it warks without problems.

Spring loaded carbide spike.... pushing the button down loads the spike until it reaches maximum tension at which point it pops back out, almost like a car cigarette lighter.  Only instead of a plastic handle this one is a pointy bit of carbide which makes short work of glass, or if you try the above photo, it shoots right through the thumb pad and transfers all of its energy right into the bone in your thumb.

I invented many unpronounceable and unrepeatable swear words when I did it.

the leatherman Z-Rex is good choice. its made of 440c stainless steal, has a glass breaker and seat belt cutter with an oxygen tank wrench built in.

I hadn't seen this thread until today. While you should NOT press the black button with your thumb, I read on some forums where people had defective ResQMes, so I would recommend testing it on a piece of scrap lumber or something... Not your thumb... seriously.

Doing that is right up there with snorting wasabi powder for 'not bright'.

I am the last of 4 children. I'm perfectly capable of learning by watching OTHER people do stupid stuff. When I was in High School, I was at a party, and they were passing around a bottle of something. We were standing in a circle of like 12 people. The person immediately on my left took a swig, pronounced it horrifying, and passed it left. Next person did the same... all the way around the circle, every person tasting it, and exclaiming how wretched it was until it got to me. I said 'No, thanks, I believe you'.

So true.  There are some things that do not need to be personally experienced even the first time before deciding they are just dumb/painful/dangerous.
