I normally carry a sling pack from MEC, Canadians will know what MEC is.
Which one?

Which sling, I mean. Not which MEC.

I carried an MEC Small Carry-All for a long time, but when it came time to replace it they had switched to their new, nearly zipper-free version. The only way to make the bag more insecure would be to add spring-loaded ejection pockets.

I have the older version with a better looking logo and different colours. Mine was green.
For you information, I bought it at the Toronto location. And I got my LM Style CS at Barrie MEC back when it was still $14.75.

I like the sling bag concept but it's kind of difficult when using it over one shoulder which I do a lot.

Have you tried an asymmetric one? They can only be worn comfortably over one of the shoulders if wearing over one shoulder, but I think it's a reasonable trade-off.

The Red Oxx I dumped a link to earlier is an example, and the only one I have tested myself. I suspect there are several offers, but it's not like it's something they shout about. "Look, it's asymmetric!" doesn't sound too good. ;) I guess "ergonomic" may be a keyword to search for.

No, the lighter 'EDC' version doesn't have the rain fly. The regular version does, though.

I just ordered the MEC Flux Sling Pack, and it shipped from the Toronto location, which seems odd, because I thought their distro centre was in Vancouver.  Must be a Flux shortage on.

This is the only bag that has made my short list: http://www.stmbags.com/catalog/laptop-bags/velo-medium-laptop-shoulder-bag/ and is affordable.

The dual bottle holders is a big plus for me as I usually leave home with a coffee in hand, and drink water once the coffee is consumed. My motorcycle doesn't have cup holders, so the bag has to carry the sealed thermal coffee mug and 1L water bottle. The clean appearance of this bag is another plus over the tacticool gear I've been trying to be happy with. Should look much better in a clients office...

I've used messenger bags for the last couple years but they don't seem to work for me. I'm thinking of switching to a backpack.

I've been using a polish army bread bag as a walking-around bag recently.  Hard to beat for value.  There are a lot available as new-old-stock at the moment and they can be had for as little as £5.  You have to buy, borrow or make a shoulder strap though, as they usually don't come with one.

I just picked up a new Saddleback Medium Briefcase in Chestnut.  It's fun to get back into bags for a bit.  I'm thinking of picking up a new smaller satchel-type bag soon as well, maybe a Saddleback satchel or a maxped fatboy.  The Briefcase is my daily driver for work and school, as it holds all my textbooks and the like.  It's a tad heavy but I only carry it a short distance each way.

I've wanted to try out the saddledack for some time now. Let me know how it holds up. The owner Dave is hilarious on YouTube.

If their reputation says anything, I've got no worries about it holding up just fine.  It's a beautiful bag, perfect for my needs at the moment.  And when it's not perfect for every day anymore, it will become my weekend overnight bag.  It's silly, I'm really serious about getting one of their satchels at the moment...

I've been struggling with this question for a while......to Man Bag or not.....

I definitely don't feel prepared enough with what I can carry in my pockets, something as simple as a water bottle being the obvious example.
No problem carrying it to and from the office, but the problem starts with shops, or banks....all the places where you either can't or don't want to take the bag.

ATM I don't have anywhere out of sight to hide a bag in my car, and leaving a bag of any description in the car is great way to get the window busted and the lot stolen.

I would go for something like the MaxPed Neatfreak....

I don't even care about man bag comments anymore.  I carry what I need in a bag, minus my pocket EDC.  Whether it's a backpack, messenger bag, satchel, or whatever, I don't care what people say.  I have a busy life and as long as I have my bag then I'll have remembered to put whatever I need in it for the day.  As for carrying it into stores and banks and the like, it just has to be small enough to be comfortable.  My current briefcase is a bit large to carry around the mall, but it is always in the car if I need it.  I plan on getting a smaller bag to carry on light days.
