@ Sparky: All in good time.

@ ducttapetech & Itriant: Thanks guys, glad you like them.

Just in case anyone is interested, my T-Bar tool has been chosen as one of the Shapeways Gift Guide ideas in the gadgets section:
https://www.shapeways.com/gift-guide/give-gadgets?li=gift-guide
Ordering a T-Bar by November the 15th gets a $10 discount.

I think it looks really good in the new black finish anyway.

Thanks a lot guys.
I suppose the best thing i can take away from this is that since Shapeways have printed a few of the T-Bars for themselves, they should be taken along to the trade shows that Shapeways like to be seen at.
So hopefully many hundreds of people will get to see and hold a one-piece multitool who probably wouldn't otherwise. Maybe a few people will be turn towards the possibilities of multitools as well as 3D printing's potential to easily offer exactly the right tool for the job and you rather than someone else's interpretation.

(i just hope they bother to populate it with o-rings and hex bits, otherwise it's just an odd shaped piece of metal)

Just a heads up for anyone who has, in the past, found these printed multitools of interest.....
Yesterday Shapeways implemented a change to their pricing structure, that has made the majority of models cheaper, in stainless steel and plastic.
Although for some people on Shapeways, especially the scale modellers, prices have actually increased, as the new prices make multi-part models a more expensive option.
However, for me at least, pretty much all my tools have become cheaper. On average, my tools have been reduced in price by 30%.
Here's the link: https://www.shapeways.com/shops/tofty

Here is a breakdown of the price drop for the Multitool.org Specific Tools, sold in there own shop:

MT.O Prybar (3mm) - Was  €27.33, Now €19.22,
MT.O Prybar (5mm) - Was  €38.78, Now €26.38,
Fish Thing 2013 - Was  €23.70, Now €16.96,
Challenge Coin 2013 - Was  €28.20, Now €21.42,
Etherealicer's USB Tool - Was  €21.30, Now €16.96,

These items con be found here: https://www.shapeways.com/designer/Multitool_Team

Okay,  so I am really intrigued with how strong a out can be when made in a 3d printer.   I just ordered the 5mm pry tool in steel.  Has anyone really put one of these to the test?   I know nothing about 3d printing so I am very interested in how this material will hold up.

I hope someone who knows a thing or five about bronze and sintering will chime in, because personally I've mainly enjoyed my 3mm tool as a cool bottle opener. :D

Although I haven't done any destructive testing with the Shapeways' bronze infused steel, it is stronger than you might expect. I've had no feedback from anyone about any of the prybars breaking in use.

For instance, the black T-bar tool shown above has a side cutout for use as a bottle opener. Unfortunately the early version wasn't designed very well and the first time I tried to use it I ended up snapping the top off the bottle, with the scars to prove it. The rather weak looking bottle opener didn't take any damage though.

The prybars are 3mm thick as that's the minimum boundary box thickness that Shapeways will print. I have printed thinner tools, but they have to have some element that sticks up beyond 3mm. 5mm is pretty much overkill.

However this material shouldn't be considered a valid alternative to traditional tool steels, it's just the only thing we currently have to play with, using 3D printing.

Thanks Tofty.   You mentioned getting these cut out of steel.   Did you ever do that?

I have always wanted to design my own OPMT, aand I have a big collection of available tools.   The 3D printing at Shapeways provides an awesome prototyping method.   How close are the tolerances on the wrenches in the printed tools,  in your experience?

BTW, I bought the nickel silver version of your 5mm pry tool.   I will post pix and comments when I get it.

Cheers,

I never did.
However the cutting of items from sheet metal isn't all that expensive per unit, if the sheet is filled. If we collected everyone together on the forum who wanted tools and items cut from some form of stainless tool steel, then each item should cost $10 or less, depending on size.
