Where did your avatar come from?
on: November 07, 2012, 03:09:02 AM
I started the "Where did your username come from?" thread in the General Tool Discussion Forum, so I thought it's time to do this question.

Mine came from an iPhone pic my 18 y/o daughter did of me one morning after it rained. I usually have a cigar somewhere near me so I put it in my mouth. The silver cup is filled with Monster Green (I don't drink coffee since retirement).

Dear Leatherman......................

My username 'LeFey' means 'of the faeries'. I went looking for a pic for an avatar on the 'Zombie Squad' boards, and thought a 'pressed fairy' was a funny way to engage a Zombie themed board.

Pressed fairies are from 'Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book' which is a somewhat macabre and very hilarious book by Tarry Jones and Artist Brian Froud.

Then, Airballrad convinced me to join the boards here, and I was lazy, and just reused the same pic.

Mine is an illustration I did for the illustrated book I used to propose to my wife. I altered it for MTO, I am holding a Leatherman MT and a hammer.

Did mine on my iPhone with an app called Avatar Creator 2.  I use it to make little icons for people in my contact list and the like.

Tried to make one that looked as much like me as possible; turned out much better than I thought it would.

Mine is just me, in my yellow Jeep with my dogs- the white one is Chinook (no longer with us) and the brown one is Daisy, although you may have to look really closely to see her in there.

This image was put together for my by this site's designer and my long time friend Whoey who came on board to help us fix the place up a few years ago, and he never left, which is god because we'd be in sad shape if he did!

He also made some other ones that are available to all but hidden...

:bossman:
This was the same one when I had long hair...

:jeep:
I think this was the original that he used as a template.

:kittjeep:
This one is just cool!

:superjeep:
This one is cooler....

That's about it- I use this avatar in most places, except on Facebook where it's supposed to be a bit personal so I use my Uncle Def avatar which cracks me up whenever I see it.

I honestly don't know. I've been using it for over 10 years now. I had Sport Billy for a few weeks and Darth Vader on a scooter for month or so here, but it just felt wrong. Like someone else's profile.

In case anyone hadn't noticed I tend to use my Boba Fett figures to make mine...

Originally it used to be with a multitool.org shard:

I goofed around when I got my cow skin SAK, but it was shrunk too much to appreciate as an avatar:

then I got sent a Leatherman Style PS as a gift after the MTO tour at Leatherman which is my current avatar:

(yes, that is the sail barge behind it, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you, I used a poster as a backdrop when shooting the pic on purpose!)

I have many new figures to pose, but haven't figured out what to pose them with... tbh, the shard one really is hard to top!

And yes, I have had a hand at several avatars seen here on MTo...

Mine is Green Arrow and is the second version of the character I've used as an avatar, I was using this one a while back:

I did use this Batman for a while as well.

No particular reason other than I'm a comic fan and I was reading some Green Arrow at the time I was picking an Avatar.  Or if there was a better reason I can't recall it right now.

Mines just a pic I took off my Alox Soldier stuck in a tree.  I took it trying to get the logo to appear like the leaves were shaped around it, and I think it turned out not too bad.

Edit, here's the full size pic of it.

My current one is David Puddy, Elaine's boyfriend in Seinfeld.  It's from the 1995 episode "The Face Painter" .  It's from the scene where he's yelling "We're the Devils!" at the elderly Spanish priest.  :o The clip gets played regularly at Devils home games.  For the record, I only paint my face when I go to playoff games.  home openers usually involve my stick on horns for my forehead, though.....  ::)

We had gone hiking with some friends to an alpine lake in Greece. On our way back we had this mutt playing along with us. Halfway through the journey back, there was this steep hill covered with frozen ice. The dog had somehow managed to get on top before me, probably because I was struggling to get a steady footing while he was using his claws. When I got near the top he became all playful and started jumping up and down and on me every time I was reaching for the top. I had to sit there for a while and calm him a bit and one of my friends thought it was funny and interesting and yadda-yadda... ::)

Before that I had a hybrid of a Vic Spirit and a B-52 Spirit, created on a slow afternoon...

I still use this one on my twitter feed.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.
