Swiss? Tech

Are all Swiss Tech made China? Have they always been made in China?  I thought they were Swiss.
Anybody know what steel they are made from. Just found an online store that sells all of them. Cheaper on Ebay though.

They used to be made in the USA, back in the early days.  The designer is Swiss, which is where the name came from.  When they started to get more popular and expanded their lineup to include more complex designs they moved production to China because of the cost savings.  Many of their existing models at the time like the Utili-Key and Micro Tech plier tools were so simplistic that few people noticed the difference as quality was easy to maintain.

They they started to get into gimmicky tools with LED's and plastic parts and that changed everything.  Still, the classic models are good, regardless of where they are made.

the utili-key is neat, but of the two I've had dealings with (one mine, one not) both have broken on the thin little hook bit.

I have a Micro-plus EX 9-in-1 now. High on the nifty factor. $10 gets you $10 worth of tool for sure. And you can take it on the plane.

Pro's
Low Cost
Compact and comfy in the pocket
Unique key ring attachment

Con's
Bottle opener is a bit of a stretch
Quality of steel
Rivets instead of screws
