Ok. Major update.

Spend sometime today doing some prelim assembly.

Transplanting the goods from the Charge TTi Commander into the new Wave Commander proved to be somewhat of an adventure. I remember why I liked the wave over the TTi, everything about it just more compact and rigid.

Here are some over all shots and I'll explain further.

Lets talk blade exchanger, the previously fitted BE Locked up great on the new wave body but a cut out needed to be made to accommodate it.

Why are the pivots different? They are actually pivots from a surge. Unlike the Charge, the wave's pivots are independent from the handles/scales. The increased thickness of the BE and scissors required me to use some longer barrel pivot pins. While the BE pivot was good as is, the one holding down the scissor abs blade needed a tiny bit of adjustment.

A great spacing when opened up. I'll be tweaking the grip plates and getting them done in stainless.

The inside tools aren't that crazy, I did however swap the standard rebar awl for my own concave edge one.

The otherside is a can opener (unknown replacement right now) and second bit driver.

And here's a random photograph of my dog wearing a hat.

Wanted to waste some time in the shop late on a Friday night.

Chucked up some 6061 and milled out some grips. The jimping isn't as nice, I only have 7/32 ball mills at the moment.

Here is fresh off the mill, test fitting.

After a 100 grit sand paper.

....and after a 400 grit wet sand, installed with doubled sided tape.

I used the blade profiles as a template. So the grips aren't protruding past them, and follow the curve.

The extra filler of the grips makes for a nice meaty grasp when using the drivers. It also solved the problem I was having with the blade exchanger digging into my hand.

I really like the wave you made. seems a good all round tool combo. Your work is excellent like usual.
If those greips get available, i might feelthe need to buy my first leatherman, just to be able to use them.  ;)

Now that I know the general dimensions and extruded profile, I'll see about throwing them in CAD and RPing them in polished stainless. What am very curious about is if I can somehow mount the 1/8" ferro rod into the grips, I feel like they could be utilized somehow, but my attempts to make the T&T fit didn't quite work out.

Did some playing around with the grips I made last night. Always nice to manually manipulate real metal instead of pushing pixels around.

Instead of trying to mill a dual slot for the T&T, I milled a single slot for the tweezer. This gave me a great idea of off setting the slot to one side for a later generation. Once offset, they won't interfere with each other when the pliers are open. I think I can also incorporate a pin when I go to CAD.

For now, a single slot for the tweezer will do for now.

Adding some double sided tape.

Stuck on!

The tweezers fit too, so this'll work for either or.

I was also racking my brain trying to figure how to add the 1/8" without compromising the body of the Wave. So I pulled a temporary, emergency solution: blue tack.

The BE slot has plenty of room for the rod, and it's kept in place and safe, until needed.

I admire your creativity and inventiveness. Great modification, we can say that the Wave took on a whole new quality.

just a thought, and i don't consider myself an expert, but if you want to add tweezers to a wave, the tweezers from a LM squirt fit nicely in the space were the pocket clip should go ! if you use the pocket clip/REMOVABLE lanyard ring you could poss. remove the fixed lanyard ring ???
ps. if anyone has a 'spare' set of them i'd be keen to buy them, PM me if you do  (wifey wants hers back ) ;)

Yah, that's the prime spot. I'll see what I can do, but right now it's fun to experiment!!

Do you think the t&t piece would work on both sides at the same time?

I'll know when I get the next shipment I from shapeways. It's my first time printing in stainless so I don't know how the tolerances work

STAINLESS UPDATE!!!

Yaaaahhhhh!!!! They are here!!

Along with the shears too!

I am surprised, I shouldn't be, it is stainless steel after all.

They are still a little wide (literally 1mm too wide) but these with a little work are swweweetttttttt!!

They won't close yet but they need to be milled to the right edge

The pin slot is still too tight but it was fun to try!

I need to physically alter these grips be before they go on the Commander but woo!

You know, you make all these awesomely super epic mods, but how does this benefit you? I'm guessing you simply like modding as a hobby because you have made enough perfect edc tools to last a lifetime. Will you end up selling some of them to finance other ventures?

It is primarily a hobby, but it's also a mental exercise. I often get caught up on a project and need to move on to another project, even for just a bit to get my clouded mind clear of it.

I often make very specific tools for specific jobs. I am a product designer and wear a lot of different hats...so the more tools for more jobs the better!

And maybe market it. A DIY, just make sure buyers don't know they'll never be able to do any of it.
