The horn blanks I ordered arrived. Turns out that the red ones have been dyed, but the dye is only on the surface. As soon as you start sanding it disappears and you are left with brown. (not that that's a bad thing)

I did the Sportsman as a practice run and then the Recruit to go with my "Scales materials" collection.

There is a crack next to the caplifter on the Sportsman. It is fixed with superglue but the line still shows.

I am a sucker for natural scale material, especially good horn. No SAKs, but I have a GEC Barlow and fixed blade skinner, both with jet black buffalo horn that I adore. The GEC I purchased; the fixed blade I won in a contest six months later, and the scales just happened to match.

Man, would I love to get my hands on one of those Cavaliers.

Off-cuts from the above Sportsman and Recruit glued together and used to dress up a Rogue (eBay "throw in" Rover with the addition of scissors from a Beater classic.

I have several Rallys that I plan on turning into Blinged up Ramblers. This one was a practice run.

By the time I had got the glued together pieces sanded flat there wasn't enough thickness left to fit T&T in.

But when I'm making scales from stock rather than scrap there will be room for the slots.

The smurf love-child from an unholy union of a Rally, a Rover and a Classic.

With both the flat and Philips combo tools it has two bottle openers so I'm calling it the "Aussie Mini-Champ".

The cut&pick blade/orange peeler is custom made from one of the left-over nail-files. Unfortunately this means the nail nick is on the wrong side, but I can live with that.

This one has scales from some nice translucent honey-coloured horn and I made them thick enough to fit T&T.







Guess I'm not bored with it yet... :)

Yes, me too. The SD nail-file is no good at digging gunk from under my nails (ewww).

I even go as far as "sharpening" the gunk remover.  well, squaring up the edges at least.  Just removing the rounded edge resulting from the polishing of the tools makes it far more effective.

nice job mate! to avoid lamination in the pin area try to leave the hole in the scale a little bit bigger, ando do not expand a lot the pin on the center, try to make just the exterior of the pin to expand... hope i dont sound confusing   :think:  i really like the rambler

Yes, I understand what you are saying, on the Cadet I drilled the holes oversize in the horn and superglued a copper tube bushing in. The pin then expands in the bushing and does not split or de-laminate the horn. I must try and find some tube the right size for these pins.

Pulled that Rogue apart and made it into a Rambler. (the dark scales) it's very slim and I made it up without a Keyring.

The other two are in the light horn like the "Aussie-Champ" and are a Rambler and a "Left-Handed Rambler" with the tools in a slightly different configuration.

I think you guys saw a seller in ebay with a few sales, but with 100% rating, and selling very interesting SAKs (horn, mother of pearl, rosewood, etc...)his name is royaltyknives, I could get this from him, his name is Matt and is a really nice guy, the only problem is that he did not ship to Brazil, so I have to ask to a friend of mine receive in US, and just received them last Friday.

And if it goes well, i will have the oportunity to buy some nice stuff for donations prizes for MultiTool.org.
A friend of mine is working for Victorinox in Greece and i have "access" to the warehouse, so sometimes you will never know what you can find.
I have a lot of ideas for the future, will see how it will go. ;)

I got the CampFlame along with it's bigger sibling the XXLT, hence my  N E E D  for the SwissFlame.  :facepalm:
