Unfortunately, I couldn't take a picture because I was in a location where cameras are not allowed, but one of the ladies I was working with today had a very nice black scarf with a large, and visually unappealing, white label sewn on one end.

She mentioned that she wished she had a scissors so she could just cut it off. (You all know where this story is going already don't you?)

I pulled the black Classic out of my pocket and handed it to her with the scissors open and she was amazed at how sharp they were and how well they worked for being so small.  Of course this is not anything new for anyone reading this post. :salute:

Ok so I use my beloved SAK (Tinker with black scales courtesy of a forum member) constantly, but I thought I might share a story from the other day which illustrates why I carry one.

The other day I needed to shift my computer at work, and while there are about four different network ports near my workspace, only one of them will allow my computer to properly connect to the network; if I want to use one of the others I'd have to call IT. Now, I was in there on a Sunday, and I hate unnecessary mucking about, especially with simple things; I suppose in a way that illustrates why I carry a SAK in the first place.

All I wanted was to move my computer a few metres, and I wasn't about to wait until Monday to call IT and have them switch me to a new network port etc etc. for something so simple. So I scouted around to see if I could grab a longer network cable on "permanent loan" from one of my colleagues.

Well, it turned out that my boss' computer was the only one with a network cable long enough (with things like this, it's always the boss' equipment, isn't it? :P). Unfortunately when I went to unplug it from the wall, the plug came loose from the face plate and pushed into the wall cavity... whoops!

Thankfully I was able to whip out the can opener and use the small nib on the end of it to undo the screws on the face plate to rescue and reseat the actual socket from the wall cavity, and then screw the whole thing back on the wall... meaning that my boss would have no idea that anything at all had happened! Despite the fact that it was a Sunday, I must be honest and say that I did feel a touch of panic at the idea that my boss would walk into her room to see me messing with a wall socket, but the whole thing was done and dusted within about 30 seconds.

The whole thing made me VERY glad that I carry my Tinker on me at all times :P That, and the time I was able to unlock myself from a busted toilet stall door :P

Note: The moral of the story is that the phillips head screwdriver on these things is absolute rubbish. The pivot point being in the middle of the knife means that if you're even 1 or 2 degrees off dead centre, the screwdriver will fold back up or slip in the screw as soon as you put pressure on it. The nib on the end of the can opener is far more effective in almost every situation. Victorinox, if you're reading this, the screwdriver on the Tinker model needs to go.

Used the SwissTool to yank LED modules out of some fancy pants Christmas lights that went on the fritz. Changing them out for the included spare units worked on a string last year, but not today. The expensive multi-pattern lights are cool, but they don't seem to last long. On the plus side, the SwissTool's jaws grabbed on tight but didn't mar the plastic housing on the LED.
May it be as the Pattern has chosen.

I used the combo opener with wire stripper on an Alox Bantam as a torque amplifier to open a tube of heavy duty adhesive (that had dutifully adhered its cap to the tube). Slip-joint pliers would have destroyed the cap. This method slightly deformed the cap's top temporarily.

More details about this adventure of the Alox Bantam and how the wire stripper on the combo was used for this can be read here . . .

A wooden shopping bag holder my son made fell and broke.  I couldn't think of a better combo to fix it than my Craftsman.  I used the pliers to pull the old nails, the bottle opener to pry the back off, the small straight edge on the backstrap to re-screw the hinge screws in, and the backstrap Philips to put screws in place of the tiny nails on the back.

??? 'splain please! Cuz you probably did something I didn't you could do with it!

Good save!

Once again I reached for the Hercules (since I don't have a cybertool or 58mm w/can opener...yet) to repair and tune-up this ebay sale.
(which if anyone is interested is a Super Dimension Fortress 1 Macross, aka Robotech SDF 1 from the 80s)
It's funny that my biggest SAK always gets used for the smallest screws.

No problem James!  It's the smaller regular head screwdriver on the backside of the Craftsman near the awl and the chisel.I think its designed for smaller screws like you'd find in electronics.  It worked great for the smaller screws my son used on the hinge of this box.
