Oh, nice idea. What are you looking to be able to cut, paper, card, leather? Or right up to tin snips?
I suggest the name Phorusrhacidae(Image removed from quote.)

Or charge...cutty sark? Who know. It's weeks away from being tested but the idea is sound. This will also open up an opportunity to have side cutter MT (other than bob's power cut)
Nautilus is a good name. Sadly Gerber already nabbed it for a pretty poor MT. (Image removed from quote.)
If locking pliers is the Crunch, maybe this should be the Chomp Have you actually ordered the stuff from Shapeways, Eric? I'd imagine it would make a helpful grinding template if nothing else. Also, do you have a plan for the pivot?

Pulled a Spyderco Training move and got them made in polished red plastic I made the handle pivots a smaller hole so I'll drill them out for the perfect fit. Right now the shear pivots is a simple bolt assembly, but I need to source some or make a 1/4" pivot pin. Also, a torsion spring needs to be made, a round one with two feet sticking out, that should spring load the shears, which is essential when using shears without finger loops. It's either spring load them or design some fold out finger loops in place of the blades. I imagine these would be a nice companion to a identical plier based MT.
Thanks for getting awl out mate Any chance of salvaging the Paul Chen spring, and embedding that in there? Been a while since I got rid of the handles for mine so I can't remember how thick it was Failing that, how about a cheapo SOG crosscut ... or even cheaper one of the Taylor Sweaty Bumwipe Cutlery made Toughchips ... the spring is probably the only serviceable part on it
I think you are in the clear with Moby Dick.

I have the design in place, it's a matter of making or finding a spring.

PICTURES! I HAVE TO HAVE PICTURES!!!!
