Ok. Lots of lessons learned here.

Drilling out of the pivots was done by using an overkill solid carbide 7/32 ball mill. The pic shows a crappy TiNi bit, which undersized the hole. But the final drill was used by the carbide.

A comparisons between all the heads.
Rebar, the shears and the regular wave/charge head.

Here's the messy part and where things need to move.

They don't quite close up all the way, the width near the pivots needs to be taken down a smidge.

...and they don't quite open all the way because here termination point wasn't  designed in. Side by side you can see where the plier heads have a stop, the shears are missing this. Taking it in a bit will work. The ramps work well.

So, sadly, as with all prototypes, revisions are needed but at least I am happy to report that this project is for sure worth continuing.

Hack on my friends. Have a merry Christmas!

Thanks!! Now to figure out how to add a loop for my ring or pink finger to control the shears. Spring loading might be too difficult.

A ring?
Just put your pinky on the other side of the handle, like I do with all of the non-spring loaded pliers.

Yah, instead of a can opener, design a ring and have it lock in place. There won't be a universal size so I think a hook with multiple lock points would be ideal for adjustment of Hand sizes.

Slimmer design, improved locking mechanism and going straight to Stainless (sale on right now).

The only thing different than what you see is that I pushed the material 1mm up on the cutting surface so i can mill it away for a sharp edge. I hope to ask Syph007 for some carbidizing.

OMG OMG!!

They are here!!

The shears are here from shapeways, printed in stainless.

The heads need some milling work and the pivots need to be drilled out as well.

I extended the cutting edge by 1mm so there is lots of room to mill off and make sharp. I hope to send these off to Syph to get the edges carbidized.

Hmmm now what to do...I have too many projects on the go right now...

I unno, I haven't even got them to work. They are pretty soft. This was another one of those "no one is doing it, so let's do it".

I just bored out the pivots to 7/32, and the main pivot to 1/4. Ignore the giant hardware, I just took whatever I had and trimmed it to fit (it happened to be a 1/4" Roberton bolt and nut,

My ramps are engaging the blade lock pins. That's a good sign.

The width is perfect too, also a good sign.

And the shear stop also works. Yup, good sign.

I did some milling last night
Preliminary removal of the cutting edge so I could least see how they fit.

The pictures will show how:

...i can relate to that. Just make sure it´s not Motorcycles you are doing more than one of at the same time - They can get pretty space consuming, even -...err, especially - in bits.

From a corner in my uncles wood-workshop to a 2 car garage into a 44 square meter shop with 15 sqm added for more storage... I guess you could stack a lot of Multis there.

Yup! That's the entire point of of their stoutness. If the inside tools we're missing, the length of the shears could grow by about a whole inch!

Hey Metro,
Love what you have come up with! Ever have any thoughts about making a wire stripper and crimper head for a Surge/Super Tool 300? I am reprofiling one from a PT-540, but can only manage to fit it in a ST 300. I am also having to use the gears off of the original frame. Would love to get my hands on a 3D printed one designed by you. Guess I may have to pick up another hobby
