I'm reading the Halo short stories. They're pretty good, but the full novels are better.

In the past week, read 'The Name of the Wind' by Patrick Rothfuss, enjoyed it enough to order the second volume, 'The Wise Man's Fear', and while waiting on that, read Tom Clancy's 'Threat Vector'.  The second book arrived midweek, and I finished it yesterday morning.  That's 2500+ pages worth of reading, lol.  All three are good reads, and I'm looking forward to Rothfuss' third book in the series...  8)

I'm on the second harry potter at the moment, and I plan on finishing the series before I read anything else.  These books are fantastic!

I've started to re-read novels from the Warhammer 40k series I had laying around. Much better reads the second time around. Taking my time. Those Brit authors have them some fine vocabularies for sure. Keep having to look up words. Nothing fancy just tons of words not commonly used.

As of right now I'm reading WH40k Blood Angels second omnibus. Consisting of two stories, The Red Fury and The Black Tide; written by James Swallow. Don't care for this one as much as I did the Grey Knights omnibus, but I thought I should give it a second go before letting a permanent layer of dust settle on this paperback. The Grey Knights will be picked up once more upon completion of this book.

Will be purchasing the Ultramarine's entire story arch later today for $15 I hope...
If anyone is familiar with this series and has recommendations, I'm all ears.

The other day I dug into Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey, part of "The Expanse" series. It's scifi, and sort of reminds me of HHGTTG for some reason, but I'm not enjoying it as much as HHGTTG. My main reason for checking it out is that it's rumoured to be an upcoming scifi series, so I thought I'd see what it's all about. I may not make it past book 1...

I loved Kitchen Confidential - they look like pirates on the cover and act like pirates in the Kitchen!

Just finished a mammoth session of 'Wolf Hall', 'Bring Up the Bodies' and 'Beyond Black' all by Hillary Mantell - all brilliant then 'Wonder Boys' by Michael Chabon, as great as the film, and just Started 'Long Earth' by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter which is v interesting so far......

I'm on book five now, though I like the Tom-ified character from the movie better. Still I love the concept of the Reacher character.

I've been back on a Clive Cussler kick lately, I read Poseidons Arrow and The Storm last month and I'm almost done with The tombs now.  Time to buy a few more!

I would love it if Andy McDermott would continue his Nina Wilde/Eddie Chase series.  Turdbucket left a bunch of stuff open then decided to switch to writing a new series.

I am now reading 'Raising Steam', the newest Terry Pratchett novel.
While it has me laughing now and then, the pacing is off, like in 'Snuff'. The man's getting old, or his assistant writer has a horrible sense of tempo  :-\

Before I enjoyed a reread of the first Gaunt's Ghost novels by Dan Abnett (Warhammer 40'000, but you don't really need background knowledge).
It is like reading all your favorite war movies, including FMJ, Platoon, The Dirty Dozen. I like that every book continues the story, but has a different feel to it.

I also have to read some Tom Clancy, I think I missed his last two novels and some inbetween.


I am wondering if I should read World War Z.
And after watching The Hunger Games on TV on Easter, I have an urge to read the books (I read they are adressed to adolescent girls, but it neither seemed adolescent nor girly to me  :think:)
Any thoughts on this books?

I have difficulties with the word 'thriller'. Do you look for something to do with crime, or spies, or military, or other themes?

I enjoy Tom Clancy, especially 'Clear and Present Danger', 'Hunt for Red October' (This one is very Cold War-y, while the first would also fit in modern times) or 'Without Remorse' (this is not for the faint-hearted or under-aged, pretty brutal scenes his best 'Spy thriller', imo).

I also enjoyed 'Eye of the needle' by Ken Follett.

RT1969, WWZ is a great book. Max Brooks did a good job with this one.

I recently read both The Hunger Games and World War Z. Both very nice books, especially World War Z. The difference is the Hunger Games Movies are quite good while the World War Z movie is utter garbage.

The Hunger Games Books - 7
The Hunger Games Movies - 7,5

World War Z Book - 8
World War Z Movie - 4,5 (and that only because of the special effects)
